Metal, Neo-Cons, Spring, and the Pope
 by Fëanor

  • Thanks to ST for pointing me toward this article. It's a review of two seemingly unrelated books that ends up also being an essay on war-mongering neoconservatives and what their socio-political philosophies have in common with those of Norwegian Black Metal bands. Totally fascinating.

  • An interesting statistic from today's Metro: 16 people were arrested last week for having sex in the men's bathroom at the Strawbridges in Center City. Umm, eeww. Could there be a more unromantic place to get it on?

    I guess spring has sprung.

  • Speaking of spring--oh, spring, how do I hate thee! Let me count the ways:

    1. You cause the spiders and bugs to awaken and crawl out of their wintery hiding places and onto me and my house.

    2. You cause the outside to get all hot and humid and icky and disgusting.

    3. You cause all the trees, the plants, and the flowers to begin expelling horribly poisonous materials that make me sneeze, that make my nose run, that make my eyes itch, that make me not be able to breathe, that ultimately leave me exhausted and uncomfortable all day long, and into the night.

And yeah, okay, maybe you make the days longer and sometimes rather pleasantly warm with a nice breeze, but that's just to lull me into a false sense of security. Fuck you, spring.

  • I heard they finally got that new Pope installed. There were some problems of compatibility with the Vatican OS, and they had to download a patch and reboot, but now everything seems to be working okay, and Benedict version 16.0 is online!
