Ron Moore was only the show-runner for Caprica for the first few episodes, and handed over day-to-day control to Jane Espenson (who herself dropped out of the position in order to write more, so they brought in another guy whose name escapes me). 2) My favorite part about the mirror gag in Duck Soup is that unlike a lot of those kind of gags (in cartoons or whatever), Groucho isn't really fooled by it, or at least not for very long; but he gets distracted by trying to outsmart Harpo, and eventually I think he just wants to see how long they can keep it going. So it's not the same joke over and over again; the gag actually keeps changing throughout the bit. It was great. Ultraman would randomly annihilate people from his satellite with his heat vision. Owlman and Super Woman were conducting an affair behind Ultraman's back that he knew about but couldn't prove. I highly recommend picking up the various trades.

I also found a bug with the preview page (which was a holdover of a bug on the comments page that I fixed a while ago), and fixed that, too. It would be very hard for Batman to become a doctor, because it would require a university of prestigious merit conferring an honorary degree on him which, given his vigilante status, is probably not condoned legally and would make said university look bad--something universities try very hard not to look. however, with Batman's (in reality Bruce Wayne's) detective and scientific training, he could probably merit several degrees if only anyone had the chutzpah to give them to him.

One might ask, "Why would Batman have to wait for an honorary degree? Why can't he just take the classes?" Well, the answer is that Batman has to fight crime, and he can't waste his days training to be a doctor, because it would make him so wiped out he would have to take drugs to stay awake at night and fight crime, and then he'd get addicted to drugs, which frankly has happened to him before and I'm sure he's smart enough not to let it happen again.

But it confounded my attempts to enjoy it at every turn. It was dull and formulaic with a stupid, ridiculous story and no interesting characters (except Hellboy himself, of course). I did enjoy the occasional Lovecraftian allusions, and the fantastic idea of a clockwork Nazi assassin created from a guy addicted to surgery. And some of the monsters were cool-looking, especially those seeds of destruction guys. But they had a bunch of great ideas that they didn't do anything with. They didn't tell me anything about the Nazi assassin; they didn't go anywhere with that. The main character (the young, green agent) was totally bland and pointless. The big bad guy was totally bland and pointless. Which is really too bad, because, once again, there was a lot of potential with the bad guy, and his evil girlfriend. But the movie, again, did nothing with them at all. It didn't try to develop them, or even tell me who they were at all or how they were connected with each other. No backstory, nothing. And they had no clever, evil dialogue, like the bad guys are supposed to have. Hellboy had the few good lines in the film. The conclusion was totally rushed, poorly paced, thoroughly unbelievable, and anti-climactic.

I don't know, maybe I was expecting too much. Basically, he shouldn't be the director of his own movies anymore. He shouldn't write the screenplays, either. I'd still be okay with him writing the story outlines (I love the story of Star Wars, just not the way it's being implemented), and having final say on most of the creative decisions. But that's it. Other people with actual writing skills and knowledge of how people really talk to each other need to write the screenplays, and people with directing skills need to direct.

Of course, this is all a moot point now. It's too late. The third movie is practically in the can. Sigh. Somehow--maybe because I'm such a huge fan of the series--I'm still optimistic about it, and I still think that it might come out okay.
