But The Name of the Wind is ludicrously overrated; the writer spends the first three quarters of the book making a bunch of promises and the last quarter proving himself unable to keep them. I'm really baffled by people who like it.

Yeah, I'm a little confused as to why I haven't read American Gods yet myself. In fact, believe it or not, I have never read any of Gaiman's novels - only his graphic novels and comics.
