"Also, I assume this means Caprica is dead in the water, which is sad."

No, not necessarily. Ron Moore was only the show-runner for Caprica for the first few episodes, and handed over day-to-day control to Jane Espenson (who herself dropped out of the position in order to write more, so they brought in another guy whose name escapes me). I think when Caprica was in development, RDM was still hoping to get Virtuality off the ground, so he never intended to be in charge in a really hands-on fashion.

Yeah. The weird thing is that they extended the cast contracts to November (which effectively postpones the decision re: a second season until then), but the second half of the season won't air until next January. So it's not really clear what they're waiting for, since by the time their own self-imposed deadline arrives they won't have any new ratings information to base their decision off of.

Now, I'm not super-optimistic about a second season (and to be honest, I felt like the show fell off after episode five or so), but certainly SyFy clearly _wants_ to pick up the series but hasn't decided whether or not it's a good idea.

I was in the Trust Snape camp from the beginning, for the simple reason that if Dumbledore had truly thought Snape was not fully on his side he never, ever, would have said "Please."
