• Game of Thrones family sigil desktop wallpapers!! Awesome. It's too bad that I hate all the Greyjoys (especially Theon, whose chapters I can barely read, he's such a complete dick), because their sigil and words are so excellent.


• Dan Hipp has been at it again, posting all kinds of amazing illustrations on his blog, including a Predator fighting a Wookiee, a poster for The Wolverine lamenting the film that could have been, and a truly fantastic Tintin/Alien mashup image.


• Check out the teaser for Daniel Radcliffe's next film, a period ghost story called The Woman in Black.

• The first trailer for Lars von Trier's Melancholia (which is slightly NSFW, due to brief, distant nudity). It's technically a sci-fi film, as there's an important plot element involving a mysterious planet suddenly appearing and heading for Earth, but it seems to be much more about relationships and people being really emotional. Looks intense.


• A trailer for the new Mortal Kombat web series, based on that video that went viral a while back. Sadly the trailer is nowhere near as cool and exciting as the original video was. It's just a rather clumsy fight scene.


• Looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger's getting back into movies in a big way.

• My favorite art jam blog recently took on Futurama.


• Apparently there's a series of questionably legal Russian children's books in which the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team up with folks like Predator and Batman.


• I posted a ton of stuff to Twitter this morning, and some of it deserves to be double-posted here, like the trailer for Duncan Jones' Source Code and a couple of clips from The Troll Hunter. Troll Hunter just looks cool, because hey, trolls! The trailer for Source Code, however, is sadly not as exciting as I hoped it would be. The premise is vaguely intriguing (guy keeps reliving the same eight minutes, a la Groundhog's Day, in an attempt to discover who committed a crime), but the straightforward, matter-of-fact manner in which it's presented, and the typical love story that's tacked onto it, makes it a lot less interesting than it could be. But maybe I'm being too harsh. Anyway, I still want to see the movie.


• Adam "Apelad" Koford's "Laugh-Out-Loud Cats" does it again.


• Fox is moving Fringe into the dreaded "Friday night death spot" starting January 28th of next year. The folks at the network insist they love and support the show, and think the spot will be great for everybody, but we'll see what happens.


• An Aquaman movie is supposedly in the works. While I can understand why Hollywood would do this ("Another superhero, you say? Sure, throw him on the pile! There's always money in superheroes!"), I really don't see it working out very well. I mean, can anybody remember a good Aquaman story? Yeah, I thought so. I mean, what do you do with a hero who talks to fish? How can you do a serious, live-action movie about him?


• The search for the next Superman has begun. Apparently the lucky fellow is likely to be a relative unknown.


• Another wonderful art challenge on Warren Ellis' Whitechapel message board: "design a poster for a movie called SPIDER-MAN directed by David Lynch." (Via)


• Pac-Man/Inception mashup. (Via)


• I try to avoid posting Batman casting rumors because there are so many and they are so unreliable. But this one is irresistible: Tom Hardy could appear in The Dark Knight Rises as Dr. Hugo Strange. Hardy was amazing in Bronson, had a great role in Nolan's Inception (I didn't even realize until now that that was the same guy; that's how good an actor he is!), and is also set to star in the new Mad Max. He would be an excellent addition to the cast. Plus, Strange is a fascinating and rather obscure choice for villain.

• The early reviews for Iron Man 2 are disappointingly mixed, and are even leaning towards poor. I am sad.


• Gorillaz and Alan Moore are collaborating on an opera about the 16th century alchemist John Dee. It's not often that I get to put that much awesome into one sentence. I'm going to sit back and enjoy it for a moment. Aaahhh...


• Ridley Scott says his Monopoly movie will be about greed - specifically, it will be "a comedy that will look at the 'bloodbath' and 'bad behavior' in the real estate market that led to the current economic crisis."


• A sequel to Clash of the Titans is in the offing, with Louis Leterrier moving from director to producer, Sam Worthington keeping his starring role, and an as yet unnamed person taking over writing duties.


• Jon Favreau talks about Cowboys and Aliens and makes it sound pretty fun.


• A Predators video clip focusing on Danny Trejo's character, Cuchillo.


• If you ever enjoyed any classic 8-bit Nintendo games, you must play Super Mario Crossover. This is a slick, brilliant game that allows you to play the original Super Mario Bros. as any of a rather large group of classic video game characters, including Link, Samus Aran, Simon Belmont, Mega Man, or the dude from Contra. It's amazing how well the designer has integrated these characters and their abilities into this new setting, and how much it changes the game. (Via)


• I have no choice but to enjoy this Threadless design entitled "There and Back Again," which envisions Tolkien's Middle Earth as a London Underground route map. I only wish I could get a larger version of the graphic so I could take a closer look at it. (Via)


• The new trailer for The Last Airbender is pretty cool. Lots of impressive effects and action, and you get a better look at Appa. I'm still worried about the writing and the actors, though. There isn't a lot of dialog in here, but none of it is all that impressive, or delivered all that well. Still, I remain optimistic.


• Man, now I'm even more excited for the noir episode of Fringe. Over at this link you'll find a fantastic, black and white, old school-style trailer for the episode, plus a more traditional preview.


• A city made entirely of staples.


• The Grand Ole Bestiary includes a lot of very well-dressed, respectable-looking animals.


• Super Punch describes Laurie Lipton's drawings as dense and grim, and I have to agree. They're also very impressive work.

• Columbia is running out of time to make Ghost Rider 2. They'll lose the rights to the character if they don't start production soon. Even if they do manage to do it, they may not be able to get Nicolas Cage back, as he's busy with other things. Woo hoo!

• The first full-length trailer for Predators is here! And it's extremely exciting! My only complaint is that it seems to show too much. I mean, I'm pretty sure there are some spoilers in there revealing who lives and who dies. Not that I hadn't already assumed most of the characters would die. But still.


• io9 lists Wolverine's 10 most mortifying moments and, man. They are pretty mortifying.


• Movies have made me morbidly wonder what would really happen to you if you were shoved out into a vacuum. Thankfully, io9 helpfully supplies a list of five ways you probably wouldn't die in a vacuum and one way you probably would.


• The teaser trailer for Dreamworks' next computer-animated feature, Megamind, starring Will Ferrell as a blue-skinned supervillain. Pretty typical stuff here; nothing fresh or exciting. Maybe later, longer trailers will offer something more interesting.


• Enver Gjokaj, who played Victor on Dollhouse, has a new web series called Previously On Point Dume, the first episode of which will go up on Monday. The show is "a made-up soap opera about a community full of tawdry secrets, in which strange supernatural events are happening and the dead sometimes rise again." It's also campy; Gjokaj describes it as "Twin Peaks meets Clue." Awesome. (Via)


• Bryan Singer talks about X-Men: First Class, a film he'll be directing. It sounds like he might also be making X-Men 4 and Wolverine 2, although he may have to clone himself first.


• Tim Burton will make a 3D, stop-motion-animated Addams Family movie. Huh. UPDATE: Never mind! Burton's people say this is not true.


• A handful of behind-the-scenes Tron Legacy photos.


• Word has it a new animated series based on the Star Wars: Galactic Heroes line of toys is on the way. The show would be aimed at preschool- to kindergarten-aged children. The working title for the project is Squishies. Oh, George. George, George, George. What are you doing, man? What are you doing? I'm going to end up watching this crap with my kid, aren't I? Damn it.


• Check out the trailer for Puzzle Quest 2. Almost makes me want to take up video games again.

• A cleverly altered movie poster.


• Some interesting suggestions for Disney concepts that deserve reimagining. I remember deeply loving both the book and the original film version of Something Wicked This Way Comes (although I haven't read or seen either in ages), so I'd be both excited about, and leery of, any kind of remake.


• Casting news for Green Lantern: Temuera "Jango Fett" Morrison will play Abin Sur and Taika Waititi will play Hal Jordan's best friend Thomas Kalmaku.


• If you're into this whole steampunk thing (which I sort of am), you'll probably want to check out this gallery of photos from a steampunk exhibition.


• Michel Gondry and Ghost World scribe Daniel Clowes are teaming up for two projects: a time-travel drama starring Ellen Page, and Megalomania, "an animated film about a group of children who harness the power of hair to save the world from an evil dictatorship." Uh... okay. Megalomania features the voice talents of Seth Rogen, Steve Buscemi, and Juliette Lewis. Gondry is apparently a busy guy these days, as he's also writing "The Return of The Ice Kids, a film about a curious form of water that allows you to hear music upon drinking it." He is truly a strange fellow.


• io9 pores over the available Predators info and finds some interesting stuff, including homages to past Predator films hidden in the new footage.


• Fun concept art for a failed Dan Dare TV movie.


• The vocals are imperfect, but otherwise Ted Leo And The Pharmacists' cover of Tears For Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is pretty fun. Plus, it inspired me to listen to the original, which always fills me with joy.


• I was pretty excited when I heard that Mickey Rourke would play Conan's Dad in the new movie, but now it sounds like that's not to be. Thankfully, his replacement is as good or better: the mighty Ron Perlman!

Dude. I'd watch that. As long as it's nothing like The Da Vinci Code.
