• Speaking of Lord of the Rings, GeekDad got some fun details on the upcoming LEGO game. I'm a little disappointed that it will stick closer to the movies than the books, but not too surprised. Anyway, it still sounds pretty awesome.

• The resurgence of animated GIFs was funny... at first. Now it's starting to wear on me. Tumblr is just full of them! Full, I say! But this one is funny.

• I've heard good things about Ready Player One. It's the first novel from a fellow named Ernest Cline, and it's "about a dystopian future where gamers fight to control the future of their virtual world, the OASIS." io9 has the first two chapters free to read on its site.


• io9 also has a list of fun upcoming sci-fi comics, including a Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes crossover book from IDW and DC. Woah!


• Did you see the latest Immortals trailer? Holy crap! Yeah!


• We've got a US release date for the next Wii Zelda game: November 20th.

• Coldplay has a new album coming out on October 25th. It's called Mylo Xyloto, and it tells the story of a romance in an oppressive environment. We'll hear the first single, "Paradise," on September 12th


• A poster examining the evolutionary biology of the creatures of Hyrule.


• Johnny Depp's The Lone Ranger got shut down, apparently due to budget issues.


• How about some Star Wars links? Here's a trailer for the blu-ray releases. One of the islands of New Zealand is printing legal currency with Star Wars characters on it. Fun Star Wars plush items.


• The latest on the next Terminator movie: the director has met with Arnold and James Cameron. Hopefully they reminded him to make a movie that doesn't suck.


• The director and screenwriter team that made the last bunch of Harry Potter movies (David Yates and Steve Kloves) have signed on to do a multi-movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. Oh lord. I don't think I could take that much of The Stand.


• I'm loving the second item in this Super Punch image roundup.


• Art history in the style of classic Sierra computer adventure games.

• Steampunk Samus Aran arm cannon!


• NASA is sending LEGO minifigs representing Jupiter, Juno, and Galileo to Jupiter.


• Game of Thrones as a (NSFW) 8-bit (or is that 16-bit?) RPG.


• John "Walter Bishop" Noble is hosting a new show for the Science Channel investigating true stories of fringe science. It's called Dark Matters.


• Joe Quesada's Twitter feed isn't always all that interesting, but the other day he went through his process for creating a piece of art for the 50th anniversary of the Fantastic Four, and it was really cool. Plus, the piece came out great. Luckily, Comics Alliance collected the entire sequence of tweets.

• I hear the last Harry Potter movie is out. Neat. In celebration of this, I give you: a couple of fun pieces of Harry Potter art; a great interview with the actor who plays Neville (his name is Matthew Lewis); an amusing photograph; and a fun cosplay idea from Super Punch for your next Harry Potter event: dress up as a wizard trying to dress up as a muggle.


• Cool gallery of pics from Cowboys & Aliens (am I crazy, or didn't this movie used to be called Cowboys vs. Aliens??) Sadly no shots from the rumored Olivia Wilde nude scene are included.


• Here are a couple of trailers I've posted multiple times to Twitter, and am posting again here (what? I like them!): The Thing and John Carter. Both a lot better-looking than I expected.


• Black and WTF has had a lot of amazing posts lately. Witness Kitten in Spaghetti, children posing with a giant cat, a girl in a gas mask staring at a hooded falcon, and kids reading the first wireless newspaper.


• The last two Let's Be Friends Again were pretty fantastic.


• Gallery of geeky dresses.


• Usually in video games you go for the high score, but beating Super Mario Bros. with a score of only 600 points is pretty impressive.


• Here's a handy list of all the sci-fi TV series premiering this fall, and the dates they air.


• David "Dark Knight" Goyer will write the screenplay for Legendary Pictures' upcoming reboot of Godzilla. Woah. Could we actually get a well-written Godzilla film? The mind boggles.


• Video demonstrations of a couple of neat-looking video games developed by a fellow named Arthur Nishimoto. Both are multi-player games played on a giant touch-screen. Star Wars Fleet Commander is a real-time strategy game that simulates giant space battles and TRON: Game Grid recreates the Ring Game from the movie.


• The canvas wasn't big enough to hold this painting.


• Yet another photo of dwarves from The Hobbit. This time it's Balin and Dwalin. I have to admit, some of the makeup here looks a bit goofy, but maybe it'll work better on screen.


• I just wanted to mention that for some reason I really enjoy Business Cat.

• You know I can't get through one of these without some Star Wars links, but this time I will try to keep them to one bullet point. Here's Leia as a Sith, Luke being super-emo (though to be fair he has good reason, as the image makes clear), and a potential T-shirt revealing Leia's reaction when she learned her true parentage.


• Patton Oswalt's rejected pitches for Batman comics are pretty amazing. I'd read those!


• Hipster Puppies is now a book!


• Realistic, disturbing reimaginings of Super Mario villains.


• Amazing convention sketches by David Aja.


• How about some Harry Potter links? Here's a cool (if slightly inaccurate) illustration of Harry protecting Sirius from the Dementors; an amusing T-shirt (via); and all the Harry Potter novels summarized as mostly-wordless, single-page comics.
