Happy 007
 by Fëanor

-First of all, happy new year to everybody! I have no doubt that it will be a better year than last year. And that's all I have to say about that.

-Picked up Zelda again; it's just really awesome. I'm continually impressed by the fantastic imagination and totally smart level design. The stuff they've done with magnets and the iron boots is just pure genius.

-Our New Year's Eve brunch went well, I think. We had a pretty good crowd, and ate lots of food and played lots of Wii and Fury of Dracula. It was good to have everybody around us. I feared we might end up on WiiHaveAProblem.com a few times, and then there was the furniture collapse disaster (I haven't gone back up there to survey the wreckage and consider my options yet), but otherwise all was well and everyone had a good time, I hope. Thanks again to everybody for coming.

-Later on last night, I celebrated the new year by laying next to my slumbering wife, flipping between two marathons on TV (the "Metalocalypse" one on Cartoon Network, and a Marx Brothers movie marathon on TCM), and finally opening up and drinking down my bottle of Romulan Ale, which I purchased at the Star Trek Experience when poppy and I were in Las Vegas a while back. Turns out Romulan Ale is just beer with some very impressive blue food-coloring added (my tongue is still a bit blue this morning, I think, even after having breakfast and brushing my teeth), but hey, I like beer, and I like blue things, so that's cool with me.

-The marathon last night was my first real experience with "Metalocalypse," and I have to say, I was extremely entertained. Like all of Cartoon Network's late night toons, it's twisted, bloody, and disturbing, and I love it. It's the story of an incredibly popular international metal band called DethKlok, with their own giant evil lair/stronghold, and featuring members Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Toki Wartooth, William Murderface, Pickles the Drummer, and Nathan Explosion. What I really enjoyed about this is that, in the episode wherein we meet all their parents, we also discover that all their last names are their real given last names - there's a Mr. and Mrs. Murderface, a Mr. and Mrs. Explosion. Brilliant! Anyway, the show has an odd formula wherein, after an odd opening, there's always a short interlude with a group of religious and government leaders who are keeping a close eye on DethKlok in the hopes of ultimately destroying them, but who always decide, after summarizing for us what's going on this episode, that they should continue to just sit back and watch. Then generally a lot of brutal, brutal metal gets played, and a lot of people die, often due to the actions of DethKlok or their minions. Then the episode ends. Awesome.
