That Cat Came Back
 by Fëanor

The Cat Returns is a ridiculously fun and wonderful movie from the talented folks at Studio Ghibli. Poppy and I rented it recently from Netflix and just loved it. It's not directed by Hayao Miyazaki, but it might as well be, as the animation is just as beautiful as in any of his films, and the basics of the story are pretty much the same as in any of his films: a young girl learns a great deal about life and herself after having an adventure in a strange fantasy world. It is, on the surface, a film for children, and thus it can get a bit heavy-handed about its moral and its message at times, but in general it's just an incredibly entertaining, funny, and touching adventure romp.

The plot summary, if you need one: a young girl saves a cat from being run over by a truck, and then quickly regrets her decision when it turns out that particular cat is the prince of the Kingdom of Cats, and the King has all kinds of inappropriate and unwanted gifts he wishes to shower on her in thanks, including the hand of the Prince in marriage! To escape this strange fate, the girl seeks out the help of the weird characters who work at the Cat Bureau, and ends up going with them on a wild adventure to the Kingdom of Cats, where she will either finally find out who she really is, or lose herself for good.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the film. It is pure fun. Plus, there are lots of cute kitties.
