Can't say I'm too impressed with this Coheed and Cambria album (The Second Stage Turbine Blade). I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as the only strong recommendation I received about them came from a drunk guy I met on the PATCO platform one night (he saw me reading a comic book, and told me I would like them because all their music is based on their own series of comic books - a fact I haven't been able to verify). But I still thought they might be good, as I heard somewhere they had that pretentious prog rock thing going on that I tend to like. Sadly, the lyrics are corny, the vocals are whiny and irritating, and the music, though fun at times, isn't good enough to make up for the other flaws. I'll give it another listen in the future and see if my opinion changes, but I kind of doubt it. |
