The Setup
 by Fëanor

Just like last week, this week the holiday has pushed the release of new comics back to Friday. In other news, over the holiday I came to the conclusion that I really had to start getting my trade paperbacks a different way, because I'm really getting gouged for them at the comic book store. So I used an Amazon.com gift certificate to pick up a bunch more for cheap (expect reviews in the next Take, or the one after that), and I think that's the way I'm going to buy them from now on. I'll still include them in The Setup, though, just for completeness. Oh, and I've taken Runaways Volume 8 off my list because some research revealed that it doesn't exist, and that I'm already all caught up on Runaways. D'oh! It's hard to find comics when they don't exist.

Back issues and old data
Astonishing X-Men Volume 3: Torn
B.P.R.D. Volume 6: Universal Machine
Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham #3
Black Summer #0
Dan Dare #2
The Goon Volume 2: My Murderous Childhood (and Other Grievous Yarns)
Heavy Liquid
Usagi Yojimbo #108
Wisdom #1
The usual suspects.

New releases
Buffy Season 8 #10
Whedon's back! Awww yeah.

End League #1
This is a title I've been reading a lot about in various comic book publications. I suspect it will suck, but it's being described as a combination of Watchmen and Lord of the Rings, and that's pretty hard for me to resist. The story is about a group of superheroes making their way through a world ravaged by evil to find the artifact that's the final remaining hope for saving their world: the hammer of Thor. (But not Marvel's Thor - this is from Dark Horse.) Should be interesting at least.

Gravel #0
A new series by Warren Ellis. 'Nuff said.

Hedge Knight II: Sworn Sword #4
Finally! It's been so long since an issue of this came out I was beginning to think it had been cancelled or something. Hopefully I'll remember enough about what was happening that I won't be confused.

Lobster Johnson: The Iron Prometheus #5
This slightly uneven miniseries nears its conclusion in this penultimate issue. I'm hoping it stays at, or exceeds, the high level of quality it hit last issue.

Moon Knight #14
I wasn't a huge fan of the Moon Knight Annual, but it was pretty good, and I'm hoping author Duane Swierczynski can pick things up in this issue.

Ms. Marvel #23
I'm rather liking the Captain Marvel miniseries, and Ms. Marvel is tied into that title, and written by the same author, so I figure I might as well give it a shot.

Omega: The Unknown #4
Thunderbolts #118
I don't have much to say about these series except that they're both awesome and I'm looking forward to reading new issues of both.

Ultimate Human #1
Woo hoo! This is the start of Warren Ellis' new Ultimate miniseries featuring Ultimate Hulk vs. Ultimate Iron Man. Can. Not. Wait!
