Three Fun Things I Did This Weekend
 by Fëanor

  1. Saturday night, poppy and I went with two of her friends to see Ocean's Twelve. We all enjoyed it quite a lot. I actually liked it better than the first one, but I'm not sure if that's because it's actually a better movie, or because I was just in a mood more conducive to enjoying such a film. Anyway, it's a ton of fun. Totally entertaining, dripping with style, full of great editing and camera work, with a fantastic soundtrack and many, many great actors, some playing themselves in amusing cameos. It's almost completely unbelievable, but you won't really notice. I highly recommend it.

  2. Sunday afternoon, Super Tarzan, Peccable, TrackerNeil, Yagathai, and I (Sarcasmo couldn't make it, again, but it should be easy to write her character in at the next session) gathered together at Peccable and TrackerNeil's place for our first session of a 2nd Edition AD&D Forgotten Realms campaign. Immediately before I left my place to get there, I purchased a revised copy of the Player's Handbook on eBay, and after my first session, I'm glad I did. Now I can have personal access to all those damn tables and all that information, not to mention the fact that we've desperately needed another copy of the book to pass around when we're all trying to find a different obscure rule or figure at the same time. And, you know, it's cool.

Anyway, the campaign was a great time. Most of it was us slogging through the wilderness and not finding much, but then it climaxed in a sudden and fierce battle with what turned out to be a family of crab people. This was exciting, but kind of a fiasco. I mean, we were the victors, but morally and ethically, we failed big time. Instead of trying to communicate with the crab people, or allowing them to crawl away after we'd injured them, we slaughtered them mercilessly. This was not what Peccable and I wanted to do, but we ended up feeling compelled to join in. And before we finished off the clan of crustaceans, my character got a serious beating, at the hands (or rather, claws) of the crab people, and of my own party members, who were fumbling their projectile weapons right into my face. Luckily, I had a guard dog (with better stats than me!), and a priest behind me with a number of healing spells, so we survived. And the crab people ended up having a lot of treasure! Poor crab people. Well, I gave some of the money to my church, anyway. But I'll be haunted by the guilt for the rest of my days. And if I forget, our DM Yagathai will helpfully and gleefully remind me, I'm sure.

  3. For my last item, I give you the Eagles vs. Redskins game. It was not a complete pounding, like the Packers game, but it was another satisfying win for our side. Jevon Kearse, the Phreak, kept getting injured, and kept going right back in there and knocking guys flat. The 'Skins defense made some important stops, too, but their quarterback was really shaky in there, and they made some really critical errors. Ultimately, we just made fewer mistakes.
And now it's past time for me to go to bed, so I bid you all adieu.
