| Fox News explained (finally) |

I was watching Fox News a few days ago (don't ask why, invalids do funny things like watch bad television), and I finally figured out just what was so wrong about them. I mean, I always knew there was something wrong with them, but this one report really put it together for me. It was about that weird string of arsons in Maryland, which has since been solved but at the time of this broadcast had not been. The reporter dude was talking to a forensic psychologist and he (the reporter dude) said, now let's take a look at some statistics about arsonists. What came up on the screen was a list, and the first three were something like 97% of arsonists are male, 87% are white, and 84% have prior felonies.* That is what the list said. What the reporter dude said was, so this tells us that the people who set these fires are male, white, and are felons.
Okay, it did not say that. It said, perhaps, that the type of person most likely to be an arsonist would be male, white, and felonious. It did not say that all arsonists are white male felons. My distrust of Fox News gelled at that moment. **
*These are unfortunately just from my feeble memory, as I am too tired at the moment to look the real ones up; one could say that is the flaw in my news service.
**To be fair to myself, I usually make it a point not to go anywhere near Fox News, so my gelling moment came pretty late in the game. I usually just make it a point to distrust and hate whatever the liberal media tells me to. Oh, wait. |
