On the Viewer - Battlestar Galactica ("Six of One")
 by Fëanor

I was pretty angry and horrified when I visited the Battlestar Galactica website the other day with the intention of viewing another episode online, only to discover that they only allow you to watch the four most recent episodes of the season there, and that a number of the episodes I hadn't had a chance to watch yet had already dropped off the site for good. Luckily, I have BitTorrent, and a file converter program, so now all the episodes are on my iPod. Hooray for technology!

The first of the Torrented episodes to meet my eyes was "Six of One," which picks up right where "He That Believeth Me" left off, with Starbuck pointing a gun at the president's head. (Btw, some spoilers follow, but since everybody but me has probably already seen this episode, it shouldn't be a problem.) The confrontation ends with nobody injured, but Starbuck lying powerless in the brig while the fleet continues to move further and further away from Earth. Meanwhile, the four folks on Galactica who just found out they're Cylons decide they should try to find the fifth, and Tory sets about seducing Baltar with the idea that he might know something. Luckily for her, seducing Baltar is not at all hard. Oddly enough, while this is going on, Baltar starts seeing and conversing with the imaginary Baltar that Six has been talking to. WTF? I hope the imaginary head people are eventually explained, and that the explanation is not stupid.

Meanwhile, Lee heads off for his new job as a politician, although not before some tearful and moving farewells. And the Cylons have an argument about what to do with the Raiders, now that they're refusing to attack the human fleet. An argument that gets a bit... out of hand. Finally, Adama finds a way to give Starbuck a chance to follow her feelings. So hopefully now she'll stop whining all the fracking time.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of this episode, and it's partially because of Starbuck's incessant whining. But there's also a lot of melodrama and corny dialogue. Still, I was genuinely moved by the farewell to Lee sequence, and I really love the whole Cylon in-fighting plotline. There are lots of great ideas there, and they're being played with in a very interesting way. The Raiders recognizing the presence of the Final Five in the fleet; the plan to reprogram them; Boomer voting against her line; the change made to the Centurions - all great stuff. And of course it was also fun to see a bunch of Cylons slaughtering each other.

So, all in all, definitely not one of my favorite episodes, but interesting, with some good scenes. And I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
