On the Viewer - Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Episode 7, "Duel of the Droids")
 by Fëanor

It was taking so long for this episode to show up online, I was afraid they just weren't going to post it at all and were going to skip straight to the next episode, but this afternoon I logged on, and there it was! I sort of liveblogged my reactions while I was watching, so I'll just pretty them up a bit and present them to you as a series of impressions.

I love the way Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, and the other clones drop in on the station by simply leaping through the air. There's some amusing comedy over the fact that Rex has been saddled with R3. As usual, I love the battle droid banter despite myself, just as I revel in their destruction. R2 is wily and bad-ass in this episode, and Obi-Wan continues to be a cold-hearted bastard. Why does he hate droids so much anyway??

It's pretty brutal how Grievous just ices that one guy. It's so odd how they aim this show at kids in so many ways, and then just slip in brutal onscreen murder like that.

I knew R3 was a spy! That little scumbag.

I enjoyed the reference to Return of the Jedi (R3 closing an extra door in front of the sheilding, just like when Han tried to hot-wire the door to the bunker on Endor).

The droid poppers, which are sort of like little EMP bombs, are very cool. How come they've never used them before? Seems like they'd come in handy pretty often with all the evil droids always hanging about.

During their fight (which is mostly realloy awesome), Ahsoka calls Grievous Grumpy. Grumpy? Seriously? What is with Ahsoka and the terrible, terrible nicknames that she gives everyone? Who is she, George W. Bush?

Anyway, at least there's lots of kick-ass light saber fighting. And even Grievous gets involved. I always love to see him in action.

There's a scene where Ahsoka's hiding and she discovers that R3 is a spy, and that he's going to try to stop R2 and Anakin from escaping the station. So why doesn't she just use the Force to crush his head? Or to crush Grievous' head, for that matter? Or at the very least bust up R3's legs so he can't move anymore. The Force is wasted on the young!

Despite some of my above criticisms, I'm liking this show more and more. Sure, there's dumb dialogue, but there's so much awesome Star Wars action, and the animation is really quite impressive.

Ahsoka cuts Grievous' hand off, steals her lightsaber back with the force, then leaps into the landing bay and cuts the head off a droid ship. Sometimes she's pretty bad-ass.

Man, how many exploding ships and stations has Grievous run away from now? When are they going to fire this guy?! He has a near 100% failure rate!

Love the crazy droid fight, and how it ends with R2 coldly cutting loose his opponent. Damn!

I also love Rex and Anakin's little maneuver with the fuel cell. Teamwork, with telekinesis, laser guns, and explosions!

Unfortunately, the next episode focuses on Padme and Jar-Jar. I'll still watch it, of course, but... argh.
