On the Viewer - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Season 2, Episode 10, "Strange Things Happen at the One Two Point")
 by Fëanor

I've been falling way, way behind on my TV show viewing, so last night I stayed up late and watched a couple of episodes of my favorite shows. The following is sort of a liveblog of my reactions to this episode.

First off, even before I knew what it meant, I loved the title of this episode (turns out it's an old saying amongst players of the game Go).

The episode opens with Cameron poking the ground outside Ellison's house at night with a giant metal pole. It's a very surreal image, and your immediate reaction is, "WTF?" followed by, "Is he dreaming?" But then you realize she's just being methodical and checking to make sure Ellison didn't bury Cromartie's body in his yard.

The three dots that were freaking Sarah out last episode come back, and now it looks like they might mean something after all.

Some pretty shocking stuff happens in this episode, like we learn Jesse's true mission: she's here to stop Cameron from gaining too much influence over John, because in the future she's practically taken over. Very interesting.

Oh no! Dr. Sherman is dead! I really liked him. The A.I. killed him. Dun dun dun! It's learning to terminate early.

Wow, Riley's a lot more messed up than I realized. And John really kind of treats her like dirt.

What? Riley and Jesse?! Holy shit, Riley's an agent from the future! That's effed up. It's a little lame that practically everybody John meets turns out to be from the future, but in this case it's a great plot twist, and it kind of makes sense. I mean, it was always a little hard to believe that a cute girl would approach John out of the blue and then stick with him through everything that's happened.

Why would a guy who's building a computer with incredibly advanced artificial intelligence think it's ridiculous to ask how the computer felt about somebody? Isn't that the entire point of the project? Aren't they teaching it to think like people and have opinions?

Why is Sarah funding the company she thinks will create Skynet?? WTF?

Woah, Riley snapped! That's a pretty powerful scene, with her screaming about everyone being dead and how none of this matters. Seems like a very realistic reaction.

Sarah, you just threw all your money away on a fake chip for a company that you wanted to destroy anyway. What was the point of that misadventure? I guess she wanted to make absolutely sure the chip was real before she destroyed it? Still seems weird.

Babylon's name is John Henry? Wow. I like the scene where Ellison interrogates John Henry, and his decision that Weaver and the programmer are responsible for the doctor's death, not John Henry.

Oh, are they really going to take on the Yakuza? Actually no! It was all an elaborate trick to steal her money. Nice.

Jesse still didn't tell Derek about Riley. That lying bitch!

Damn those fricking three dots!

I found Riley's line interesting: "There are a lot of mirrors in this world." So much is contained in that line - her feeling so disconnected from this past world, after having lived in the broken, blasted future, and her confusion about her feelings and herself. And then later on, it turns out Sarah doesn't like mirrors, either!

The final scene, with Cromartie as John Henry: SCARIEST. THING. EVER. Man, what an ending.

Yep, another fantastic episode. I'm really fascinated to see what Derek decides to do about his split loyalties to Jesse and the Connors, and what will happen when the truth about Riley finally comes out. Great stuff!
