On the Viewer - Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Season 2, Episode 12, "Alpine Fields")
 by Fëanor

And now they throw us right into the middle of a new situation: six months in the future and a family they tried to protect from termination has been torn apart and shot up by a Terminator. Now Derek is trying to help the daughter keep the pregnant mother alive. And woah! He knows the daughter from the future! That's intense. Back in the past, there's some funny dialogue in the car as they're driving away from the Terminator, about the gun ("It wouldn't work in a situation like this. Or a bear."), and about raising kids, and Dr. Phil. And is the dog seriously named Charles Barkley? That's funny.

Much further in the future (man we've got a lot of time periods to keep track of this time), we see Derek heading out on a dangerous mission to find the survivor of some plague the machines are using against them now.

Back in the past, the bickering among the family members feels very real and is very funny.

Oh, now we're getting to see the first meeting of Derek and Jesse. Cool.

Derek's comments are interesting: "Kids can adapt to this. It's harder for adults." He sees right through to the truth of who is really responsible for the Terminator finding them again.

I like Sarah's comment: "They always come through the front door." Why would they have to use the back?

Jeez! This is some family! She's having an affair, he's a criminal...

David turns out to be decent guy after all. And Roger is a dick.

David, to Roger: "The correct term is cyborg." Heh.

Jesse's story about people trying to destroy the rabbits in Australia is a very neat parallel to the story of machines trying to destroy humanity.

Did Cameron kill Roger? And where did they get that car from all the sudden?

Jesse: "What were you doing when I found you outside Eagle Rock?"
Derek: "I was waiting for you."
That's the most romantic thing ever, Derek. You are full of win!

In the end, Lauren has left the medal behind. She knows what she has to do to survive.

Really excellent, emotional episode. Very layered and intelligent. Thumbs up, as usual.
