This Weekend
 by Fëanor

-Poppy, Debbie, Tim, Rhys, Abe, and I went to see Tuba Christmas at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia on Saturday. This is an annual event where tuba players are invited to come to the lobby and play a bunch of Christmas songs. (They rehearse together first, of course.) It was a record-breaking number of tubas/tuba players this year - something like 132, I believe. They had to put the excess up in the balcony. It made for a big, deep sound which was fun to listen to. Plus, it was free, so you couldn't beat the price. I was highly amused that two tuba players had added tongues and eyes to their tubas. (YET ANOTHER UPDATE: I really wanted the tuba guys to just bust out with some metal at some point, but it never happened. Heavy metal tubas! C'mon, it'd be a sensation!)

-The Eagles just love to torture us. They seemed to be pulling it together recently, winning three games in a row late in the season. They suddenly had a legitimate shot at going to the playoffs. All they had to do was win two more games - an easy one last night, and then a tougher one this coming week. But they totally blew the game that should have been an easy win. The defense did the best it could, holding the Redskins to only 10 points, but the offense just couldn't get anything going. The play-calling was pretty bad, but so was Donovan - he just couldn't get the ball to anybody. And nobody seemed particularly passionate or interested in what was going on, except maybe Dawkins, and DeSean Jackson. Just an agonizing performance.

-Yesterday, as you might be able to tell from perusing the timestamps for the last bunch of posts, I drank too much caffeine, couldn't sleep, and ended up staying up late into the night and early morning watching online videos. That means I'm running on about 4 hours of sleep or less right now, but it also means I'm all caught up on my TV viewing! Woo hoo!

-UPDATE 1: I forgot to mention that poppy and I also bought ourselves an early Christmas present - a 42" Sylvania LCD HDTV, with 1080p. But it's just been sitting in the box in our living room for the past few days, because we have to figure out how to dispose of the 250lb behemoth that currently resides on our TV stand. We've invited some people over to help us with that tonight; hopefully the nice garbage people will take it if we can manage to drag it out to the curb. Then we'll be living in a high definition world, people! The images on our television will be so clear, our eyes will be burned out of our heads! It'll be awesome.

-UPDATE 2: Oh, and I saw a preview screening of The Spirit, courtesy of Phillyist. I signed a non-disclosure agreement before going into the theater (which was very exciting, I might add, and I told the security people so. They thought I was cute), so I can't tell you anything about it yet, but I will certainly post a link to my Phillyist review here when it goes live. I enjoyed writing it.
