The Pizza Menace
 by Fëanor

  • Poppy and I decided to order one of Pizza Hut's new 3 Cheese Stuffed Crust Pizzas on Sunday night. Well, actually, I had said I really wanted to get it, and she agreed to allow it.

Now, let's get something straight: I love pizza. All and any kind of pizza. I even like Pizza Hut pizza, which I've heard certain people describe as "greasy bread with cheese on top." I love Pizza Hut's original Stuffed Crust pizza, even though nobody else I know likes it. I hate to throw out left-over pizza, even when it's obviously gotten way too old to eat.

But I, even I myself, ate only one slice of this pizza. Poppy also ate only one slice. Then I personally threw the whole rest of the pizza into the garbage. It was that bad. Take my warning seriously, people--DON'T GET THE 3 CHEESE STUFFED CRUST PIZZA. It's bad news. The cheeses, all three of them, taste nasty and fake, and so does the crust. Blech.

Luckily we'd also gotten an order of cheese sticks, too, so we ate those as our dinner. Mmm...cheese sticks...

  • I've decided to watch the first two prequels and all the Clone Wars cartoons again in preparation for Revenge of the Sith, so before, during, and after the pizza disaster, I watched The Phantom Menace.

Sadly, each time I watch this movie, I dislike it more, and this time I was struck like never before by how awful Jar Jar really is, and by how poorly acted and scripted so many of the scenes are. I mean, Jesus. It's like watching animatronic robots croaking out recordings of a high school student's sci fi story.

Nevertheless, some of the scenes do work, and I do still love the special effects and fighting sequences, and the story as a whole. Plus, some of the actors still manage to turn in good performances somehow--among them, Liam Neeson, Pernilla August (who plays Anakin's mother), Ian McDiarmid, and Ray Park (who constantly exudes just the right amount of menace and power and arrogance as Darth Maul).

But yeah, this is not a great movie. I really wish George had spent more time developing the script and getting the dialogue right, and directing these actors, for God's sake.

Don't think this has made me any less excited about Revenge of the Sith, though, or in any way affected my determination to re-view Attack of the Clones. I'm still a lifelong Star Wars fanboy here. I'm just...disappointed. You could have done better by us, George. You could have done a lot better.

  • Received my ticket for the Ben Folds concert today. Sweet. UPDATE: I can hardly believe it, but a guy from FedEx just called me to confirm that I received my package (the ticket). I thought I hated FedEx, with their seemingly constant mistakes and their ridiculous you-must-sign-for-your-package policy, but I have to say, they impressed me with their service this time.

  • Here's a (an?) hilarious story about a giant burrito weapon, via babyraven.

  • More hilarity from Something Awful, via Sarcasmo's Corner: first, a bunch of posters for Indiana Jones films that I kind of wish existed, and next a bunch of images from "pre-makes" that I also wish existed.

  • Um, holy shit:
A damning minute leaked to a Sunday newspaper reveals that in July 2002, a few weeks after meeting George Bush at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, Mr Blair summoned his closest aides for what amounted to a council of war. The minute reveals the head of British intelligence reported that President Bush had firmly made up his mind to invade Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein, adding that "the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy".
Gah! I mean, this is nothing I didn't already believe, but there it is, spelled out for anybody to see. Of course, I didn't see this in the paper this morning splattered across the front page, like I should have; I found this article via James Wolcott's blog.
