Futbol

At the end of the third quarter, the Eagles are looking good against the Vikings. God bless Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook. There's been a lot of noise about Terrell Owens, but it's Westbrook and McNabb who've really been carrying the team forward tonight, with McNabb even running in a touchdown himself. The defense, though generally nascent in the first quarter, has made some really important plays, too, pressuring Culpepper, knocking the ball loose (although apparently it doesn't take much for Culpepper to lose the ball), and stopping short numerous Vikings scoring drives. There's something really satisfying about watching the opposing team throw itself again and again against a wall of Eagles defenders, and again and again be stopped short.

On other, nerdier subjects, Peccable made me aware of this interesting new game from Avalon Hill--Betrayal at House on the Hill. He thought it sounded like Hero Quest, and it does, to a certain extent. But it also sounds like it has some new and unique ideas. Plus, it's from Avalon Hill, and they generally make pretty complex and interesting games. I'm probably going to have to pick that one up.

I'm looking forward to receiving my Star Wars DVDs, despite the further changes Lucas has made, which I have now seen screenshots of, thanks to Yagathai. Or maybe not despite. I mean, some of these changes look (dare I say it) good. I really wish he would give us fans access to the original versions of the films on DVD, though. I mean, come on.

Anyway, I'm missing the end of the game so, real quick: today I worked on my Button Men applet some more, adding in a login system. I've put off working on the computer player AI for a while because I've begun to realize once again how complicated that part of the project really is. It's very difficult to program a tight, concise, all-encompassing algorithm that will handle every situation the computer is likely to get into, especially in a game with as many variables and exceptions as Button Men. Occasionally my player is still making the wrong move, and making the wrong move even once can cost you a game. Damn it.

On the bright side, the Eagles just made another touchdown. Good stuff.
