A Laborious Weekend
 by Fëanor

  • I've had a pretty good weekend. I've had take-out and gone out to eat more times than I should have, I've caught up with a bunch of friends and relatives, played a lot of video games, and watched a lot of DVDs. I'm nearly done Killer7, finally. Which is not to say I dislike the game--it continues to be quite excellent, in fact--there's just two discs worth of it, and I thought I'd be done after a full day of game play, but after playing it and playing it, to the extent that I actually got sick of playing video games and decided I'd rather go outside and get the mail, and then vacuum the place (!!), I still wasn't finished!

Another thing I'm nearly finished is "Firefly"; only one disc to go now. My new favorite episode of the show is "War Stories," in which Wash's jealousy over Mal's close relationship with his wife comes to the fore just as Mal and he are kidnapped by a character that they pissed off in a previous episode ("The Train Job," now probably my second favorite episode). I'll admit that "Firefly" is not the best series ever--it has its share of plot holes, and it tends to be a bit predictable if you pay enough attention--but I love it anyway. I find the characters very lovable (even--or perhaps especially--Jayne), and every episode makes me crack up at least once.

Like I said, a good time. I'll be sad to go back to work, but the short length of the week should take the edge off that at least a little.

    Anyway, link time:

  • Who would you kill in Hollywood? I think I'd probably go with Akiva Goldsman, but there might be somebody even more whack-worthy I'm just not thinking of right now.

  • I was very confused when I was poking about the IMDB a while back and discovered that there were more Exorcist movies listed than I'd heard of before. Now I understand. And now I feel like I need to see both of these, to compare and contrast.

  • I couldn't be happier with this quiz result (thanks to Sarcasmo for the link):
    Sofia Coppola
Your film will be 61% romantic, 28% comedy, 22% complex plot, and a $ 31 million budget.
Relatively inexperienced (The Virgin Suicides, Lost In Translation) as a director, but already highly respected and connected -- her dad, Francis, directed all The Godfather movies, Apocalypse Now. Also, at last word she's dating Quentin Tarantino, so I'm sure he'll have some input into the substance of your film. Sofia's good at making the romantic drama that is your life. Who didn't have at least a lump in the throat at the end of Lost In Translation? She's already won one Academy Award for her writing, now she'll be the first woman to receive one for directing -- YOUR FILM!
