Not About the Eagles Game, So Don't Ask
 by Fëanor

  • Friday night I went to the Decemberists show. It was ROCKING. Seriously, one of the best shows I've ever been to. For more, read my Phillyist review.

  • Yesterday afternoon, poppy and I crawled hesitantly out of our cave and into the movie theater, where we took in a screening of Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Maybe the "W&G" shorts have become greater in my memory (I haven't watched them in a little while), but I felt like the movie wasn't as clever, as imaginative, or as funny as those were. Oh, I enjoyed it well enough. I found "the other Wallace," as it were, to be particularly funny, although also particularly surreal and disturbing. The animation was fantastic, as always, and there were plenty of good jokes, some fun action sequences, and an involving story. It just seemed to be lacking that certain something. It also seemed to go on a bit too long, although it was slightly less than an hour and a half.

Anyway, the bloginator (who happened to see it independently, also this weekend) and poppy both enjoyed the movie quite a bit, so maybe I just wasn't in the right mood. I'll have to see it again some time.

  • Last night I finally caught up on a few things I've left undone for some time. I put up some new photos, and I watched the last two episodes of "Lost." That show is pretty awesome, I have to say. I did start to feel the tiniest bit put out that they have yet to really explain anything at all, but really what explanation is going to be satisfying? It's seeing only the crazy outlines of the puzzle that makes the show so intriguing. (Warning for those who haven't seen the last two episodes: SPOILERS AHEAD.) And what a fantastic story, that there could be a man underground for years, entering a code every 108 minutes and pressing a button, without really knowing what it means or if it even does anything at all, but suspecting that by doing it, he is keeping the world from ending. I mean, that's intense. That's mythological. It really blew me away when Jack asked Desmond if he'd ever thought it wasn't all just some big experiment, and he was just being messed with, and Desmond said, "Every single day." Holy crap.

Also, for those interested, a little Google search netted me the website for the Hanso Foundation (!), a supposedly real freeze-frame of the shark that was going after Sawyer which reveals a familiar company logo (?!), and a Cafe Press store where you can buy Dharma Initiative T-shirts (!!!). That's hot.

  • Thanks to Sarcasmo's Corner for helping me find my true hair color:

    Your Hair Should Be Purple

    Intense, thoughtful, and unconventional.
You're always philosophizing and inspiring others with your insights.

  • Speaking of Sarcasmo, you better watch out, girl. Self-driving robot cars are coming for you!

  • This quiz/analysis is making the rounds, so here are my results. They seem wildly inaccurate to me, but maybe I'm just repressing my true nature!

ColorQuiz.comFeanor took the free ColorQuiz.com personality test!

  • A far less disturbing and involved, and far more fun, quiz/meme thingie that's also making the rounds:

Fearsome Explorer-Abducting Nightmare Obsessed by Rage

    Jogger-Injuring Monster

I'm particularly fond of that second one. Damn joggers.

  • I also found a link to this similar dealie off of that page:

Functional Electronic Assassination and Nocturnal Observation Replicant

AWESOME! Now let's try my real name:

    Justified Infiltration Machine

Hey, I may be infiltrating, but I'm totally justified.

  • Speaking of robots, here's another robot-related meme-quiz, this one courtesy madam sarcasmoscorner. The quiz is very entertaining and fun. The result is a bit disappointing to me (I was hoping for a way cooler robot), but, I must admit, probably pretty accurate:

Click here to find out what robot you really are

  • I enjoyed this article about a new California law punishing by fine anyone selling violent video games to minors. His final point (about how lawmakers are fighting virtual torture but supporting real torture) is a good one, especially considering that Bush is currently preparing to veto a bill that would forbid torturing prisoners. Ah, the stupidity and hypocrisy of our government officials. It just makes me want to beat a hooker until money comes out. In Grand Theft Auto, of course.
