Gloom and Shrooms
 by Fëanor

  • Reason number 135 I must have a system that will play PS2 games (I put it that way because there's disturbing hints that - gasp! - the PS3 may not be so backward compatible after all): Shadow of the Colossus. That's hot stuff.

  • We've got some new info on Batman sequel(s). Warner Brothers is planning to release the next one on either Wednesday 6/18/2008 or Friday 6/20/2008. Although that is a distressingly long time from now, there's rumors that the third one may be filmed concurrently with the second one, a la LotR, which would at least diminish the wait for the next movie. The dude playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face is supposedly signed on for both sequels, so I guess we know which villain they're covering after the Joker. Cool.

  • In case you were interested in that Brit rock super-group I posted about yesterday who did songs for the next Harry Potter movie, you might be pleased by this follow-up post from Cinematical with a couple of direct links (in various sizes and formats) to the song I posted in zip form yesterday.

  • I don't know how I feel about the news that a new X-Files movie is pretty much inevitable. The first movie was mediocre, and totally forgettable (Fight the Future...what was that about again? Aliens?), and the episode that ended the series was very possibly the worst one they'd ever done, and certainly one of the worst series finales of all time.

The problem lies mainly with Chris Carter, I think. Even though he was the brains behind the show, almost every episode written by him was clumsy, over-earnest, and ridiculous. The best episodes were the funny, weird, random ones that played with the characters in interesting ways and threw them into strange new situations. And I highly doubt any movie will turn out like that.

I don't know if there's any place left to go with X-Files anyway. I mean, what would the movie be about?

  • Thanks to the pink haired girl for these lovely photos of knitted robots. They go well with those knitted zombies I posted a while ago.

  • Dude, Super Princess Peach!! Why is there no American release planned?? I'm sure there'd be a market for it; I certainly would like to try it. Of course, I could import it, but I'd probably have to learn Japanese and get myself a DS first.

  • I'm working on putting together my regular Onion post, but their site is buggy and very slow today, so bear with me.

  • UPDATE: Btw, I'm not sure I'm quite qualified for this, or have the time to do it. But I know that some of you - though you probably have even less time than I do - would be really great at it: Joystiq is hiring people to blog about video games.
