Guff and Gags, Volume One
 by Fëanor

  • Here's a couple of fun Superbowl commercials you may have missed. Admittedly I wasn't paying very good attention during the game, but I missed them myself somehow. Thank God for the internet! (Via Digg and Drawn!; find more cool Superbowl commercials at Google Video)

  • I would completely understand if you found Jack Black grating, annoying, and stupid. But for some reason, I find him very amusing, especially in this trailer for his upcoming film Nacho Libre, in which he tries on a perhaps slightly offensive Mexican accent to play the part of a young man raised in a monastery who yearns to be a professional "luchador," or Mexican wrestler. Oh, man. I may not be able to overcome my own shame and fear enough to actually go see this in the theater, but I'm definitely at least renting it. (Via The Movie Blog)

  • I didn't really read beyond the introduction, and I'm not qualified to judge theories of space-time anyway, but I'm definitely fascinated by Mr. Alexander Mayer's new theory of the universe. In a nutshell, he believes that if we assume that time has a geometry, and that there are an infinite number of time dimensions in the universe (in other words, that time, like gravity, doesn't point in the same direction everywhere; it's really relative), we can solve a lot of those lingering problems of science and do away with dark energy and dark matter. Sounds pretty deep. He's got a book coming out later this year, supposedly, so maybe I'll wait for the reviews and see what the more qualified people think of it. (Via Digg)

  • Time for another cool trailer alert. This time it's a neat-looking French animated sci-fi film called Renaissance. There are no subtitles, sadly, but you can get a feeling for the movie, anyway. (Via Cinematical)

  • SETI and NASA got together and used science and some guesswork to develop the possible zoology of an alien world, complete with pictures. Check it out. Reminds me of an episode of the old Outer Limits called "Wolf 359," where a scientist created a perfect miniature simulation of an alien world in his lab, only to watch alien life develop there and eventually escape and attack. Ah, memories.

  • Create your own 3D computer models of any object with a laser pointer, wine glass, rotating platform, and digital video camera. And, of course, a computer and some kind of edge detection algorithm. Yeah, he loses me around there, but still, sounds like a cool project if you're into DIY. (Via Digg)
