Pods and Antipodes, Volume One
 by Fëanor

  • I'm disappointed that it's Simon West (director of the wretched Tomb Raider, and the stupid-looking-but-I-can't-say-for-sure-because-I-haven't-actually-seen-the-thing recent remake of When a Stranger Calls) who's interested in making it, but I'm excited at the prospect of a Dalí biopic. West is even throwing around names like Antonio Banderas in terms of stars. But he wants it to have broad appeal - "Amadeus [meets] Moulin Rouge." Huh. Well, I liked both those movies, and it sounds like the kind of crazy combination Dalí might have approved of, but...we'll see what happens with this.

  • Willie Nelson now has his own brand of clean-burning biodiesel fuel. It's made from soybeans and it's called BioWillie. I kid you not:
BioWillie went on sale at an alternative fuel station in San Diego where the 72-year-old singer drew a crowd as he filled his tour bus from a pump emblazoned with a picture of himself strumming a guitar.
I'm disappointed that the stuff is 80 percent regular old petroleum diesel, and only 20 percent actual soybean oil-based biodiesel. But if Willie says it's okay... (Via poppy, Salon, and Google News)

  • Portraits made out of bacteria. Awesome. (Via Digg)

  • Here's something else to get worried about, if you don't have enough: you could have a brain parasite that could affect your behavior and the psychological health of you and of your children. Yay!

Luckily, this CDC page on the subject suggests it's not really that big a deal. Or maybe that's just what they want us to think... (Via Digg)

  • Take this with a grain of salt, but a fan who talked with Michael Keaton whilst acquiring the actor's autograph claims to have learned three interesting facts about his future projects. First of all, Keaton's definitely not playing Joker in the next Batman. That's too bad; I thought that was a great idea. However, secondly, the chances for a new Beetlejuice starring Keaton as the titular rabble-rousing ghost are very good; Tim Burton is working on the script now. Sounds great to me! Finally, Keaton says he's got a role in Rodriguez's part of the upcoming Grindhouse, that movie I keep going on and on about here. Very awesome stuff.

  • You may remember me posting a super-cool trailer for Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette way back. Well, here it is again, the same one I think, but this time available in more formats, including a beautiful high-quality one. You can even get one to put on your iPod! (Via The Movie Blog, where they hate the trailer very much for some crazy reason)
