Couple of Things
 by Fëanor

-The Beat That My Heart Skipped turned out to be not so great after all. At least, I don't think so. It's an odd portrait of a man I didn't particular like or understand. It kind of meanders and then ends, without really coming to much of a satisfying conclusion. I don't know, maybe I need to watch it again. It definitely kept my interest, anyway. I was just hoping for more of a pay-off.

-I actually enjoyed the preview screening of Over the Hedge that I saw Wednesday night much more than TBTMHS. A really fun movie. It's got all the elements of your typical computer-animated kids movie with an all-star cast, but it just handles them all very expertly and delivers a pleasant, bite-sized chunk of entertainment. I'll be writing a slightly more detailed review for Phillyist when the opening date gets closer.

-Getting closer to my goal of having my entire music collection on my beautiful, beloved iPod. Of course I'm going through it alphabetically, and the latest chunk of CDs I took down off the shelves are in the R's and S's. Very exciting!

-Do you like tacos? You should buy an Old El Paso taco kit. Right now the boxes come with a code that'll get you a free song on iTunes. Tacos and tunes. What could be better?

-Recent musical discoveries: Chad Van Gaalen (sort of indie/pop/folk, via 3hive), Cinemechanica (sort of jazz/punk/metal, kind of? Really excellent, anyway, via 3hive), Josh Ritter (that whole indie/pop/folk thing, via 3hive), Norfolk & Western (sort of alt/indie/country, on 3hive - can you tell I've been hitting the 3hive hard lately?), The Golden Dogs (alt/indie/pop - came across these guys randomly and liked them so much I went online and bought their whole album; it's pretty good!), The Wood Brothers (read a lot about them in Paste, didn't sound up my alley, but then I listened to their track on the sampler CD and really liked it, even if it is rather country-ish), The Rakes (got their CD mailed to me for Phillyist, and never reviewed it because they're not going to be in the area any time soon, but it's really damn good stuff! Kind of New Wave, punk kind of stuff with a fantastic beat). Protest the Hero, who I thought were awesome at first, I've now decided are not really that awesome. But they're still an interesting mix of hard metal and punk, with harmonic vocals, and some crazy constantly switching-up time signatures. Also, Clutch has still got it. I downloaded their disc Robot Hive/Exodus (in a completely legal fashion...), and it's really rocking! UPDATE: I already have somebody to add to this list! An indie/pop outfit called Aloha. I'm listening to their album Some Echoes and I'm liking it.
