On the Viewer - Battlestar Galactica (Season 4.5, Episode 8 - "Islanded in a Stream of Stars") |
by Fëanor |
Spoilers ahoy.
This episode may very well have my favorite title of any episode of the series so far.
Everybody's having the dream about Hera in the opera house again. Hmm...
Galactica is literally coming apart now. Argh! What a horrific scene, as the Six sacrifices herself and is pulled out into space.
Jeez, the Quorum members are already planning on how to apportion out Galactica's bits and pieces, before she's even dead! That's cold.
Eight's last words, to Saul Tigh: "So much confusion." There must be some kind of way out of here!
Indeed, Saul is still very confused. His family, he says, are the people on Galactica. But he is a Cylon, and his lover is the queen of all Cylons. He's having a hard time reconciling that.
Ellen: "You must understand what we were trying to do. We wanted to end the cycle of war between man and machine."
Tigh: "I had a child. He died."
Ellen: "You're wrong, Saul. You had millions."
Huh. Hera can do the Cylon projection thing, too. Interesting...
Does Baltar really not even know who Starbuck is? Have they seriously never met before this? It's certainly possible, but it seems odd that two of the major characters would never have crossed each other's paths until so near the end of the series. I'm also really fascinated to see what comes of Starbuck revealing her secret to Baltar and asking him to run some tests. Despite all her bitter comments, she really was moved by Baltar's speech on angels, because of course she had an encounter with one of her own last episode.
Wow. They really put Anders in a vat and hooked him up! And woah, there he goes. He sounds like one of the crazy hybrids now. And does he actually have control over Galactica's systems??
Dude, Roslin and Adama are smoking the ganga. Don't bogart it, Adama! All kidding aside, that was a very moving scene between the two of them.
Tahmoh Penikett, the guy who plays Helo, is really very good. The scene where he asks Adama for permission to take out a Raptor to search for his child is very powerful, as was the scene earlier when he was trying to get through to his wife, trying to get her to tell him she hated him, anything.
Even more moving is the funeral sequence, where the Cylon, military, and civilian loss rituals are all interwoven.
Oh, Baltar, what are you doing now? Why do you have to turn everything into a production that has you as the star attraction?
I like what Apollo said to Starbuck after the big reveal. It doesn't matter what crazy crap we've been through: you're you. But Starbuck puts her own picture up on the wall of the lost anyway.
Cavil, to Boomer, about Hera: "Don't worry, we'll take good care of her." Do you really believe that, Boomer? It's a heart-wrenching moment, she and Hera on opposite sides of the glass wall, both weeping.
Plugging Anders back in seems like a really dangerous idea, but then again, he might hold the key to everything in his broken little brain.
Frak. They're really going to evacuate Galactica. But what will the show be without its title character? Well, actually, I guess it will be over! Anyway, the final moment between Adama and Tigh is yet another powerful and moving scene. A great ending to another great episode.
To Galactica! So say we all! |
