Mutant Raisins of Death

  • Excellent! And highly accurate! (Btw, this one's been around for a while, but it was when I saw it again on kheara's lj that I finally decided to do it, so I'm giving her the linkage.)

You scored as Hoban 'Wash' Washburne. The Pilot. You are a leaf on the wind, see how you soar. You have a good job, and a stunning wife who loves you (and can kill people). Life is good, which is why you can't help smiling. Now if you can just get people to actually listen to your opinion things would be perfect.

  • Aardman Animations lost hundreds of models and sets in a warehouse fire yesterday morning. I really respect Nick Park for immediately pointing out how unimportant this loss is in the face of the other, bigger tragedies in the world. But still, this is pretty depressing stuff.

  • I guess I should have known this would happen eventually, but it's still a bit of a shock: they're making a movie of Paradise Lost. Yes, that's the epic poem by John Milton I'm talking about. The one where he tried to justify the ways of God to Man. After this news, I need someone to justify the ways of Man to me.

Admittedly, a movie about a war between angels in heaven could be really, really cool. And there are probably more unfilmable pieces of literature in the English language. But I can just imagine how awfully they could mangle this adaptation, inserting funny modern catchphrases and beautiful troubled teens, and maybe a talking baby or dog. Gack!

  • A while ago I posted a clever trailer for The Shining that was redone to make the movie look like a kind of romantic comedy/drama. I came across another pretty good entry in the same contest: a trailer for the horror movie version of West Side Story (I think I found this via The Movie Blog).

  • I've really enjoyed the comics that Penny Arcade has been doing for this game Farcry. I thought Gabe said they were finished with these, but it looks to me like there should be at least one more. I hope I'm right, because they're seriously funny.

  • Wow, I totally never realized that Eliza Dushku was in True Lies. I guess she was Arnold's daughter. Well, sounds like she might also be in True Lies 2. But then again, maybe not; I went back to the article Movie Blog got this info from and found that Tom Arnold and Eliza Dushku have been quoted on this topic using suspiciously similar language. Is somebody just planting this rumor by creating a fake quote and putting it in various peoples' mouths?

Whether it's real or not, I'm not sure how I feel about a True Lies 2. The first one is kind of fun, but the digression in the middle with Arnold sort of manipulating and torturing his almost-unfaithful wife is just kind of creepy. But anyway, both articles I linked to there have some hot pictures of Eliza Dushku in them, so there's that.

  • I like games, I like theories, and I like theories about games, but I still strongly suspect that the game theory work that won the economics Nobel Prize would bore me to death.
