Pearls and Swine
 by Fëanor

  • Man, I don't know about putting a relatively inexperienced director, who's mainly a comedic actor, on the controls for John Carter of Mars. I really wish Rodriguez could have stayed on this project. His work has been uneven, but I trust him more than Jon Favreau.

  • It's A Bitter Little World: The Smartest, Toughest, Nastiest Quotes From Film Noir sounds like a cool book. I wouldn't mind getting it for Christmas myself. I think you'd want to carry it around with you all the time so you could have a snappy put-down ready if somebody got up in your grill.

  • Even though it still has some bugs, the DishMaker sounds really cool. You just ask it how many cups, plates, and dishes you want and it presses them out for you out of acrylic wafers. When you're done with them, you dump them back in, and it crushes them back down into wafers again. I wouldn't want to replace my nice ceramic plates with these, but when you want something disposable and recyclable, this'd be better than wasteful paper plates.

The group that made the DishMaker also has an X-ray fridge with a snapshot of what's inside on the door so you don't need to keep wasting energy opening the thing; they're also planning on setting it up so you can check the snapshot from your cell phone while you're at the store, which would definitely be handy. Then there's the living cabinet, that not only keeps your vegetables fresh, it also keeps them growing.

It's the kitchen of the future, people.
