Seven Stones
 by Fëanor

Hey, I was tagged for memage by Cyn! I only just realized! Better get to work...

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

Oh, man, only seven?! This is going to be hard...

  1. "Neighborhood #3: Power Out" - The Arcade Fire: This is a crazy catchy song with a fantastic beat that was stuck in my head for a few weeks there a while back. Very fun to listen to. (Free legal download, via Salon Audiofile)

  2. "Red Right Hand" - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Fantastically evil and menacing, like all the best Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds songs. Really clever, disturbing lyrics, combined with great singing from Mr. Cave and some fun, atmospheric instrumentation make this one of my favorites from them. (You can find a live version here, though I warn you I've never listened to this particularly recording.)

  3. "Super Disco Breakin'" - The Beastie Boys: The Boys lay down the beat, and you must obey. Fantastic. Another one that gets seriously stuck in my head, for some reason most often popping up in my inner ear when I'm in the shower in the morning. Luckily this has never caused me to actually try getting down in there, or else I could have seriously hurt myself. (UPDATE: I think I was actually thinking of "Body Movin'", but both are great songs, so whatever.)

  4. "I Can't Seem to Make You Mine" - The Clientele: It's hard to listen to a lot of their music at once, as it's all in a very particular and peculiar style, and a lot of it is actually kind of depressing, but this was the song that got me into them, and I'm still very impressed by it. It's very moving and atmospheric. (Free legal download, via Salon Audiofile)

  5. "7/4 (Shoreline)" - Broken Social Scene: Another great track by another great indie band. This one has some really neat, breathy, choral vocals and a cool beat.

  6. "Caring Is Creepy" - The Shins: You may remember this one from the Garden State soundtrack (which is a pretty amazing soundtrack, btw). Well, their other stuff is pretty awesome, too, but this is definitely one of their best tracks. The Shins are another of the best recent indie bands.

  7. "According to Plan" - I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness: Yes, it's the band with the best name ever! They're another of the cool New New Wave bands that are around these days. I downloaded this track for free and really enjoyed it. But really it's their name that makes their music. (Free legal download, via Salon Audiofile)

Oh, what the hey, just for fun, let's make it an even ten with three bonus tracks!

  1. "Let the Cool Goddess Rust Away" - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: I didn't like them at first; they sounded like a calliope fronted by a drunk carnival barker. But the more I listened, the more impressed I became, and now I'm definitely a huge fan. This particular song strikes me as one of their best.

  2. "Do It Again" - Nada Surf: This is off their latest release, The Weight Is a Gift, which is supposed to be a big departure for them. After listening to some of their earlier stuff, I realized that I prefer where they are now to where they were then. They used to be just kind of bland, dull pop; now it's indie pop, with that bit of a kick and a catch that I like. I've played this one quite a bit. (Free legal download, via Salon Audiofile)

  3. "The Stand (Man Or Machine)" - The Protomen: The epic, climactic track from their Mega Man rock opera. I know, I know. But it's just fantastic! Seriously, you should check it out. (Listen at their myspace page.)

Oh, as for tagging...tag yourselves, all of you! Post some songs in the comments, put some on your blog, whatever. I'm always looking for more cool music, so let me know what you like!
