Dubs and Dabs
 by Fëanor

  • An interesting interview with an expert about the future of spacecraft propulsion and human space travel. If I'm reading this right, nuclear engines now in development by the Russians could get us to Neptune and back in about a month. Awesome. (Via Digg)

  • Cool - now we've got pics of those new and rare species from that New Guinea Garden of Eden I posted about yesterday. I particularly like the first one - an armful of tree kangaroo! (Via Digg)

  • Enjoy reading about these crazy cyborg gaming devices from (where else?) Japan! Then, check out a video of them in action. One is a strap-on vibrator that somehow avoids being sexual at all (although I guess you could use it that way if you tried); in fact, it's for tapping buttons really really fast. Another is a fork/spoon combo you can put on the end of your fingers so you can pick up snacks and eat them without getting your controller dirty with food residue (like "cheezium," just as a random for instance - you know, that fake cheese dust they sprinkle on things like Doritos and Cheetos, and that's impossible to get off your hands without a thorough washing).

I don't think these are available outside of Japan, but that's okay, because I'm not sure I'd really want them anyway. I mean, that vibrating thing looks like it would just be really annoying, and as for the fork/spoon thing...well, I guess that could be handy. But it would probably be too expensive - not to mention too hard to get the hang of using - to be worth it. Still, fun to read about and look at. Ah, those kooky foreigners... (Via Joystiq)

  • I remember reading quite a while back about a plan to make a movie based on American McGee's Alice - that twisted, 3D journey back to Wonderland in the form of an FPS. Well, word is now it's going to start shooting this summer and be released in 2007. And it'll star Sarah Michelle Gellar in the title role. Hopefully it'll come out around the same time as Marilyn Manson's Lewis Carroll film, so we can have duelling twisted Wonderland movies.

  • A while back you might remember me posting about SuitSat, the old space suit they've tossed into orbit to act as a makeshift satellite. Well, here's the video of it being launched. It's not all that exciting (it's just a spacesuit floating slowly away, after all), but it's still kind of cool to see. (Via Digg)

  • Legend of Zelda cosplay pictures, plus more general geeky cosplay throughout this messageboard thread. This one might be my favorite. Be afraid, be very afraid...

They're all generally safe for work, btw. I mean, in that there's no actual nudity. Your co-workers might look at you differently from now on, though. (Via Joystiq)
