Break for Lunch
 by Fëanor

-The original Legend of Zelda just might be the best game ever. I've been playing it again on my old NES (currently about half way through the second quest), and I've just been really enjoying it. It's just a great game in every respect. It's just the right level of difficulty - challenging, but not so challenging it makes you scream and pull your hair out. The music is great, the game world is cool, there's kind of a neat story. As you progress through the game, you find cool items and gain strength and abilities, which you can mix and match and use as you see fit. I don't know, it's just great. Maybe I just like games where you get to stab stuff with a sword.

-My iTunes is really liking the Lord of the Rings music today. It keeps coming back to them on the random shuffle. What up, iTunes? Are you trying to tell me something? Should I be trying to destroy the One Ring today?

-Recently finally got to watch I Walked With a Zombie, a movie I've been trying to get my hands on for years. It's sort of very vaguely like Jane Eyre with zombies. Or maybe more like Wide Sargasso Sea with zombies. Anyway, there are zombies, and relationship drama, and fantastic chiaroscuro black and white photography, and it's not at all as corny as it's title might lead you to believe. Lots of talent went into it, too: it's produced by Val Lewton, directed by Jacques Tourneur, and written by Curt Siodmak. Wow!

-Also saw, on the same Netflix DVD as IWwaZ, The Body Snatcher, which was equally excellent, if not more so. Another Lewton-produced black and white (sort of) horror film with amazing photography, this one's based on the Robert Louis Stevenson story about doctors stealing bodies out of graves to learn and experiment on. It stars both Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Karloff is amazing, as always, and there's plenty of great photography, and the dialogue rocks. This one's directed by Robert Wise, so plenty of talent there again. You probably won't recognize the name Henry Daniell, but if you've seen any old movies, you'll probably recognize his face. He's in it as a hard-ass doctor with a dark and mysterious past, and he's fantastic. Just another great movie.

-Did you know that the 5,6,7,8s are the female equivalent of Guitar Wolf? Or maybe Guitar Wolf is the male equivalent of the 5,6,7,8s, I don't know.
