Liveblogging GHII
 by Fëanor

Yeah, this is a pretty good game. I love the art design, in particular, by which I mean the super cool graphics and illustrations on all the menus and between screens and such. I also love all the little additions - the practice thing, which lets you pick the part of the song you want to play (fantastic - just what I wanted many times when I was playing the first one), stuff like that. I'm just playing through career on Easy now, which so far has been so incredibly easy that it's almost boring - I've gotten five stars and 99% on every song first try, except for the first song I played, which I got at 100%.

I just played You Really Got Me, though, and that song was just a ton of fun. Looking forward to putting Easy behind me and jumping into Medium, which I'm sure will be more interesting.

UPDATE: More things I like: the extra stats that are now available at the end of each song, and the hilarious sound effect - which is clearly some guy just making noises with his mouth - that accompanies your band's van moving between venues. Really, the whole thing with your van moving between venues is great.

UPDATE 2: Favorite loading screen tip so far: "Dropping your pants on stage does not deploy Star Power." I think that one's directed at Sam. :)

UPDATE 3: "Crazy on You" - 100%, first try. Metal.

Also, I am Lars Ümlaüt all the way, people.

UPDATE 4: I can already tell which songs are going to be really difficult down the line. For instance, I dread playing "Freya" and "Jessica" on Hard. I suspect "Rock This Town" will also be brutal, despite the fact that I beat it at 100% first try on Easy.

Okay, on to Tier 7: Furious Fretwork. I should have Easy done pretty soon. Then, maybe I'll take a break and do some chores. Decidedly un-metal chores.

UPDATE 5: Second favorite loading screen tip: "You only need one person with a mohawk in your band." True dat.

Hey, tutorial guy is totally cursing this time around!

UPDATE 6: Ooh, I like the way they changed pull-offs so you don't have to be holding down all the fret buttons on the initial strum. I may actually be able to do them now.

UPDATE 7: "Carry Me Home" is the first song I've played so far on Easy that actually felt slightly challenging. Still got five stars on the first try like all the others, but it was more exciting.

Okay, two songs to go.

UPDATE 8: Woah, that song "Laid to Rest" is cool. I might have to get myself some Lamb of God.

UPDATE 9: Easy Career Mode - beaten, all songs five stars on the first try. Awww, yeah. I gots to get me that Fish Guitar as soon as I can. Ooh, there are outfits in the store this time! We can totally play dress-up with our rock stars. Must stop self from starting Medium...or I at least have to take a bathroom break first...

UPDATE 10: Well, I had to try one song on Medium. I mean, come on! So I played "Woman." And I beat it, five stars. Which gave me enough money to unlock "Trogdor." So of course I had to do that. And then of course I had to play "Trogdor." Which was pretty freaking hard! But I beat it. And now, I really am taking a break. TTTRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGGGGDDDDDDDDOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE 11: Another great thing about the game: the deductions you get from your pay at the end of each gig. "Floor, Spat Upon." That's good stuff.

UPDATE 12: Dude, this game is so awesome. You may not want to read this if you're afraid of spoilers but...I beat a song 5 stars, 100% and the crowd was so excited I was asked to do an encore - which was a Spinal Tap song. I nailed it pretty good, and at the end - the drummer exploded. That is so freaking metal. I love this game.

UPDATE 13: For my next encore: "Carry on My Wayward Son." Woo hoo!!!

UPDATE 14: Guess who just bought himself a brand new Grim Ripper??!! Awww, yeah.

UPDATE 15: WAR PIGS!!! Man, the encore songs are always so awesome.

Also, holy crap is that a long song.

UPDATE 16: Alright, I finished through tier 3 on Medium with 5 stars on everything on the first try, and now I'm getting tired, it being past 11:30 and all, so I think it's time to go to bed, and live to rock another day. I leave you with this thought: "Satan, laughing, spreads his wings."
