My Wii Is on the Internet!
 by Fëanor

I was afraid I'd have to lower all my wireless network security to let it on, but I should have known better. It was actually very easy to add it onto my network, even though I have 128 bit encryption and only allow devices with specific MAC addresses to access the network. I needed to find my encryption key and punch it into the Wii, and I needed to find the Wii's MAC address, but it was easier to find the Wii's MAC address than it was to find our laptop's MAC address; Nintendo put it in a place that makes sense!! Unlike Microsoft.

So yeah, I logged on and connected up and downloaded some updates (crossing my fingers the whole while, afraid I might have somehow gotten one of the consoles with the fatal internet error), and voila! Wii online! Very exciting. I had to see how the virtual console thing worked, so I went onto the store, punched in my credit card info, bought some points, and picked up my very own copy of Donkey Kong it downloaded in no time at all, and almost immediately the giant ape was kicking little Jump Man's ass, just like in the old days. Very cool. The virtual console has a lot of potential, I think. I might splurge and pick up F-Zero, but maybe I'll wait and see what else gets uploaded. I heard that Duck Hunt would be up there some day - I thought before the year was out - and I would LOVE to play that on the Wii.
