How not to be electrocuted |
by Fëanor |
This time of year, I have a serious problem with static electricity. Constantly I'm getting shocked. I think this happens to a lot of people, so I thought I'd share my tip: use keys. Usually when I'm approaching the door to the car (the metal door handle is a serious zapping hazard) I have my keys in my hands anyway, so it's easy to just tap the handle with them once or twice before touching it. This discharges the electricity painlessly.
Same thing when I come in from outside. Something to do with my scarf and coat makes me supercharged with the static, so I tap something metal (like the metal lightswitch cover by our kitchen) with my keys and get a nice loud zap, accompanied by an impressive blue arc, and I actually feel a sort of wave pass over my body and my hair drop down from where it was frizzing up around my head. |
