Even more on comics |

Immortal Iron Fist #5 = even better than Immortal Iron Fist #4. It's very funny, it's very dramatic, the art is beautiful, and there's loads of brutal mystical kung fu fighting. So, so good. I'm having a hard time pinpointing who was the writer on this one due to Marvel's poorly written credits, but I'm pretty sure it's Fraction. Man, I love that guy.
Btw, I forgot to mention one of the things that really bugged me about All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder #1. In books like Sin City, it was easy to see Frank Miller's questionable characterizations of women as just a part of the noir genre. But the more I read Miller, the more uneasy I become with the way he handles such things. In this book, I really didn't like the fact that he felt it necessary to introduce Vicki Vale in a full-length view of her as a stunningly sexy woman in nothing but her underwear, talking about how hot she thinks Bruce Wayne is and how badly she wants to do him. I mean, Jesus. And having read the ISB's review of the latest book in this series (which I own but haven't read yet), it sounds like there's actually quite a bit of controversy surrounding this series. This latest issue comes very nearly a full year after the last one, and apparently contains a ridiculous characterization of Wonder Woman, as well as plenty of ridiculous dialogue and situations.
I need to re-read Batman Year One and The Dark Knight Returns and 300 to remind myself why I liked Frank Miller... |
