Oh, and while I'm talking about stuff I saw... |
by Fëanor |
Poppy and I saw a live production of Stephen Sondheim's musical Assassins the other night at the Arden. As usual with Sondheim, it was very smart, very moving, very funny, and very disturbing. And the music was good, too. I loved it. Highly recommended! One of these days I think I'll have to track down the soundtrack.
The premise, btw, is insane and fantastic: it gives a voice (and a song!) to every person who's ever tried to kill the President of the United States. (Well, I assume it's every person; I don't know my history that well.) That certainly doesn't mean it sympathizes with all of them, but it does at least try to look at them as human beings and try to understand what it is that would make a person do such a thing. |
