You Should Know, I'm Superman |
by Fëanor |
I am absurdly pleased that the very cool little boy that I think of as my nephew, Rhys (AKA The Bug), is now big into superheroes. Last night we stopped by the Foster household to pick up some boxes they had helpfully collected for us for our move (thanks, guys!), and as I walked in the door, Rhys attacked me with his web-shooters. You see, he's Spider-Man. Almost immediately, I was dubbed Superman (probably because Rhys was watching a DVD of Superman cartoons at the time), and in that capacity I was often called upon to punch bad guys and shoot them with my heat vision (which I activated by lowering my glasses and then making a "speeow!" noise). I did not let my comic book geekery get the better of me, and did not mention that Superman and Spider-Man don't live in the same universe (or multiverse, for that matter). Everybody in the house got to be a hero or villain of one kind or another: Wonder Woman, the Green Goblin, Iron Man, and Firestar all made appearances. Rhys even asked me some questions he had about superheroes. And we also, to my great delight, got to watch an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, which is a show I haven't seen for ages, and which features Spider-Man, Iceman, and Firestar (whom I could have sworn was called Starfire, but, no, that's the DC character).
Poppy has suggested I pick up some kids' comics for Rhys today, and I will definitely do so. He's clearly already susceptible, so we can get him addicted to the medium young! |
