In my attempt to make a small change to the Hulk Thoughts, I somehow managed to change all of their posted dates to today. I also have of course not backed up the database for a very long time, which means I'm going to have to rebuild the dates from pure guesswork. This angers and depresses me.
So anyway, that's why suddenly there's a bunch of old Hulk Thoughts on the front page. And they'll probably be there for a while, too. Sorry, folks.
UPDATE 1: Well, I used some stop-gap measures, then started to go through and fix things manually, but thankfully I've found a relatively recent backup file that's going to help me a lot.
Right as I was making this change, I thought, "Hey, maybe I should back this up first." And also, "Hey, maybe I should only do this to one file, as a test, and then run it on all the posts." But then I thought, "Nah, what could go wrong?" Sigh. Let this be a lesson to me, and to you all as well: always make a backup first!!
UPDATE 2: I've just finished my fixes. All the Hulk Thoughts through February should be set back to their exact original date and time, and March through May should be very close (for many of the latter I had to make educated guesses, so the times are extremely approximate, and a few may be on the wrong day). It probably doesn't matter much to anybody else, but I feel better. I also made a change to my database table so that this kind of thing shouldn't happen again in the future. And now I'm thinking it's time to go make another backup!
UPDATE 3: OK, I made my backup, and then actually succeeded in doing the thing that caused all the trouble in the first place: namely, changing the author of all the Hulk posts from Fëanor to Hulk. |
