A Christmas Miracle Indeed
 by Fëanor

When the Eagles turned in that pathetic performance last week, showing no interest or passion, and losing a game that should have been an easy win, it felt like they'd given up. And besides that, I thought the loss had made it physically impossible for them to get into the playoffs. Later I learned that it was still possible, but highly unlikely; two of three teams had to lose, and the Eagles had to beat the Dallas Cowboys. Yesterday poppy and I drove to my parents' house to watch the Dallas game, feeling pretty certain that it would mean little for the Eagles' playoff chances, but hoping that the birds could at least ruin the Cowboys' chances of having a post-season. But as we waited for the game to begin, we were watching the other games being played, and the impossible happened. The Bears lost. Tampa Bay lost. Suddenly the Eagles game was an all-important, "win-and-in" contest for both teams. It felt like the stars were aligning for our birds. And things just kept going right. I hoped the Eagles would somehow win the game, but didn't really expect it; I figured it'd be the patented painful Eagles performance, where they keep it a tense, nail-biting contest the whole time, and then utterly fail in the final minutes and hand the game to their opponents. Instead, the Eagles and the fans in the stadium came out pumped and ready for action, and stayed that way throughout. Our team brutalized the Dallas Cowboys, playing passionate, full-throttle football, tearing the ball away from their opponents again and again, and scoring again and again. At no point was it even a contest. It was one of the most exciting, unlikely, and beautiful things I've ever seen. When Brian "Weapon X" Dawkins wasn't on the sidelines conducting multiple, full-throated choruses of "Fly Eagles Fly," he was stripping the ball away from the Cowboys, or sacking Tony Romo.

The Eagles beat Dallas. At home. To get into the playoffs. And knock the Cowboys out. AWESOME.

It doesn't even matter that much to me now if they lose the next game and are immediately knocked out. They pretty much won the Super Bowl already.

But then again. What if they... What if they really did... ?

I can't even type it. But holy crap, people. The stars are aligning!
