On the Viewer - Fringe (Episode 11 - "Bound") |
by Fëanor |
This episode has a classic opening with Walter dosing a caterpillar with LSD, and Peter realizing this kind of thing is now a common occurrence in his life.
Olivia is a hardcore bad-ass, totally taking out a team of guys and escaping imprisonment with important evidence, after she'd been abducted and given a spinal tap. She also was memorizing everything she could see about the guy who had taken her, and noticed a spot on his shoe, a detail you just know she'll use to identify him.
I can't believe she fought her way out of an abduction, called for help, and then got abducted again by her own people! That's cold.
The usual weird and horrible opening incident is pushed back a bit in this episode, because they had to spend the beginning dealing with Olivia's abduction, but it happens eventually anyway! A killer slug jumps out of a dude's throat!
I love the scene where Walter captures the slug like it's the easiest thing in the world, then says this kind of thing used to happen in the lab all the time, and it makes him nostalgiac.
Wow, Olivia's sister picked the wrong time to stay over! I'm not sure why Olivia lets her stay at her place; wouldn't it be safer to put her up at a hotel? People are kind of kidnapping you and stuff, Olivia!
I'm vaguely annoyed by the subplot of the guy Olivia prosecuted way back showing up to mess with her and screw up the operation. Partially because he's just annoying, and partially because he's so obviously designed to be annoying, and it's all a bit contrived.
Interesting moment where Peter tells Olivia, "I care about you." She's taken aback. Walter asks, "She's beautiful isn't she?" Peter responds, "Who?" And Walter says, "The slug." Ha! Good old Walter.
Whenever Olivia met Mitchell Loeb in this episode, I kept yelling at her, "Look at his shoe!" And finally she did. I thought her killing Loeb's wife would look very bad and possibly get her thrown in prison, but it looks like it's turning out okay! The Loebs should have played that better; they could have made it look like Olivia had just barged in and attacked Samantha.
It's very interesting what Mitchell says during his confession - that he saved Olivia by taking her, that she doesn't even know what the two sides are in this conflict, or what they're fighting for. And indeed, she doesn't! Very intriguing.
I love how Walter keeps messing with Peter about how worried he was when Olivia was taken.
A very good episode. The usual humorous incidents involving Walter, the usual weird and creepy killings, the usual intriguing mystery, and some fun action sequences. Nicely done! |
