On the Viewer - Fringe (Episode 12 - "The No-Brainer") |
by Fëanor |
At the end of last episode, I happened to notice that the book that Olivia had been reading her niece was called What's That Noise? It stuck in my mind because I thought it was a funny title. And at the beginning of this episode, there's the phrase again! It shows up on a mysterious dialog box that pops up on a teen's computer screen. He foolishly clicks the button on it and gets eaten by his computer. Very eerie, effective scene.
Aw, c'mon! I can't believe two people got to read the mysterious note to Walter, but they haven't shown it to us yet!
Man, I love Walter! He's told there's a body coming over, and he says this is the most exciting part of his day.
Ugh! His brain is liquefied! Nasty.
No, Astrid! Don't look at the hard drive!
The bodies are piling up quick this time. Next one's at a car dealership. Walter: "I wonder if they sell cars here with those seats that warm your ass."
Damn it! Now three people have seen the mysterious note, and still we get no hint!
I question the realism of the computer references here. How could Astrid know the exact size of the file downloaded onto a hard drive that's been completely fused together? And how does Peter suddenly know it was a program and not just any old file? And how can his computer dude possibly figure out where the file came from? And where it's going to next? That's just crazy.
Okay, so I'm glad Ella's brain is not fried, because that would have freaked me the eff out, but why isn't her brain fried? Also, I love how Charlie reacts to crazy crap like this. He's always like, "What? What are you... ? [shrug] Okay, whatever."
Woah, I think Olivia's sister is coming onto Peter.
And the guy behind it all is Luke's Dad?? That's unexpected.
Okay, finally the mysterious letter is coming into focus. And maybe we'll finally learn some more about the fatal accident that occurred in Walter's lab all those years ago.
Peter tells Walter he was arguing with Olivia about some Celtics tickets he tried to expense, and Walter says, "I hope she doesn't notice the $2,000 I spent on babboon seminal fluid. I can't recall why I ordered it..." Good old Walter!
The parallel between the subplot with Peter and his father, and the main plot with Luke and his father, is a little too obvious.
I like that Broyles is backing Olivia completely against his old friend Harris. Good old Broyles! Also, Harris? Still an annoying prick!
Dude, Pete! You've got a chance with both Olivia and her sister! You should totally take a shot.
There were parts of this episode that were predictable and contrived, but I still really enjoyed it. Fun concepts, some great Walter moments, and interesting further developments of all the major characters. I just wish we could dump this Harris guy. |
