- Plenty more reaction to the Disney/Marvel buyout: a nightmarish imaginary memo from Disney to Marvel (via); a similarly nightmarish look at the future of Marvel from Cinematical; an interesting and exciting question: will Pixar make a Marvel movie?; Warren Ellis' Disney/Marvel FAQ; and finally, a bunch of Disney/Marvel mashups from Super Punch.
- In the future we'll be able to blog directly from our TV remotes. Excellent. (Via)
- Scientists have taken a pseudo-photographic image of a single molecule. (Via Joe)
- A really excellent live performance by Them Crooked Vultures can be seen and heard starting at about 1:25 in this video. (Via)
- Snazzy-looking custom-made Nintendo arcade cabinet. (Via)
- HowManyPeopleAreInSpaceRightNow.com provides exactly the information you would expect. (Via)
- The Fantastic Four movie franchise is getting a reboot. This is one reboot I am totally, 100% behind; what I've seen of the original movie was pretty bad. Although I really wish Akiva Goldsman wasn't involved.
- Nicolas Cage is going to star in a 3D revenge thriller. Sigh.
- Some pretty disturbing photos from a movie called Bronson. The trailer for this one impressed me when I saw it way back.
- ScreenTunes lets you search for music from a movie by entering the movie's title. (Via)
- Some evidence of the first stages of an integration between Google's Chrome browser and Google's Chrome OS has been found in the Chromium source code.
- Wii Fit is getting more expensive, but gaining a "Plus," and a black Wii Remote with black WiiMotion Plus will soon be available, as well as a black Nunchuck, sold separately. Oddly, the US is not getting a black Wii console to go with the new black controllers.
- I'm dangerously paraphrasing here, but essentially it sounds like playing Tetris makes your brain bigger and more efficient.
- An amusing Star Wars/Abe Lincoln mashup T-shirt.
- Scott Adams has compiled and analyzed the available information and has come to the conclusion that we're all doomed.
- As a counterpoint, Sci Fi Wire looks over 15 doomsday prophecies and finds that they've all been wrong so far. Cross your fingers, friends!
- Wired's favorite sci-fi flicks. I'm not familiar with all these films, but most of the ones I know are good picks. Although it's rather odd and unsettling that they included the lackluster Logan's Run and the decidedly un-sci-fi Lassie Come Home
, but left out Blade Runner, probably my favorite sci-fi movie. (UPDATE: Whoops, just realized this list only covers sci-fi films pre-Star Wars, which explains the lack of Blade Runner.)
- This Thursday night Fox will replay the season 1 finale of Fringe, and during the repeat, the show's stars will live-tweet commentary. Cute idea. Meanwhile, here's a clip from season 2 wherein Pete gets snippy with a new agent, who I assume will be Charlie's replacement.
- How to open a clamshell package without severely injuring yourself. The process involves a can opener and a large kitchen knife.
- Let's talk about Diablo 3!
- Sci Fi Wire maps out 68 must-see sci-fi sights around the US.
- A pole-dancing doll? Really?
- Custom-made, hand-mounted flamethrowers. Y'know, for kids!
- Some of the fan-made scenes from the Star Wars Uncut project.
- 16 great characters with numbers for names. Yeah, it's silly, but I like lists.
- Those "Epic Mickey" illustrations that have been floating around the internet really are the concept art for a video game, which we will apparently learn more about on September 9th.
- Hints about what might have happened in season 3 of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The hope is that the show might still continue in the form of a direct-to-DVD movie, but it sounds like the chances of that are slim.
- Sounds like they might bring back Bruce Wayne as early as next year. And I assume in this case we don't mean a zombie Bruce Wayne. I wish they'd let him stay dead for a while. I'd like to see Dick Grayson come into his own as Batman.
