weekend, etc. |

So, I'm at the Super G on Sunday. This is because we were running out of food in the house and it was time to restock. It happens. I'd planned to go to the movies first, but my show was sold out (Finding Neverland! A movie that's been out for months and months! Sold out early on a Sunday! I could hardly believe it), so there I was at the Super G. Anyways, after wandering back and forth through the store, I finally found everything I was looking for (including bacon; I ended up with Oscar Mayer center-cut bacon, which I can tell you, with complete honesty and without exaggeration, after having now eaten a good amount of it--and poppy will back me up here--is totally the bomb), and headed for the check out. As the cashier was ringing up my stuff, I noticed that she and the other cashiers were distracted. This is because there was an ambulance right out front with the lights flashing, and the cashiers were trying to figure out what had happened, and who was going in the ambulance.
Well, it turns out from what I heard that a guy and a girl got into a bit of a confrontation with another guy over a parking spot, and one of the guys ended up laid out on the asphalt.
This didn't particularly surprise me. I've heard of fights over such things before. It did, however, amuse me. How sad and trashy is it that you would get into a fist fight over a parking spot--at the Super G? It's the damn Super G, for Gods' sakes! And then you end up flat on the ground and the ambulance has to come and take you away. That's just embarrassing. And funny! I even got to see them strapping the dude to the stretcher as I walked out.
Later that night, poppy and I enjoyed the center cut bacon on some hamburgers we got through the mail from Omaha Steaks. Fantastic stuff. Then we tried watching a movie she'd rented from the library--Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander. Ever heard of this one? Well, it's number 233 on the top 250 movies, as voted by IMDB users. I like Bergman, poppy likes Bergman--we thought it might be good. The tape box promised a fantasy adventure full of fun and good humor. We shrugged and popped it in.
Then we took it out again after about 20 minutes of nothing happening. I mean, I know Bergman takes his time to get a movie going sometimes. He has that slow European pacing going on; that's okay with me. I like Tarkovsky movies, for Gods' sakes. But this was just so incredibly dull! People are running around having a Christmas party. A guy tries to light his farts on fire to entertain the children. What is the point of this? We saw Alexander--one of the damn title characters!--only once or twice, and he didn't say or do much of anything. We hadn't even seen Fanny yet--or at least, if we had, she hadn't been introduced as Fanny--before we gave up.
It didn't help that the movie was dubbed--and poorly--and that poppy and I both hate dubbing. But that certainly wasn't the only problem.
But anyway, you know me. I'll probably give the movie another chance one of these days. I mean, it's Bergman! It can't be all bad. And it's got to get going eventually. Maybe I'll just fast forward it a bit...
In the interest of continuing to present you with bite-sized chunks of blog posting, I'll stop this one here. But I've still got more for you, people! I did eventually make it to that movie after going to the Super G, and I want to review that. I also want to talk about some articles I read yesterday. All this still to come in the next episode... |
