- Before today's big Apple press event, the company dropped prices on old iPod models. Here's the run-down on everything announced at the press event. Nothing really exciting as far as I'm concerned; I'm still waiting for an iPod Touch with something like 300GB of space. Although I'm sort of looking forward to iTunes 9, as it's supposed to be better. Any improvements to the hideous beast that is iTunes are greatly appreciated.
- What's Dragon*Con really about? Costumes! Here are some steampunk Star Wars costumes (via), a fun general gallery of costumes, and a wonderful Spidey Sense costume.
- A lovely The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition hand-painted and numbered Xbox 360 console (via). The game is being released today. Underwire lists 5 great Beatles tunes included in the game, and 5 great tunes that are not included.
- There are some legal challenges being raised to the Disney/Marvel buyout. But in the meantime, Joe Quesada is teasing a big announcement about the merger which is going to hit Comic Book Resources within the hour. Also, it looks like DC is going through its own shakeup (via).
- Various sites got together and agreed that today would be a day without cats. Here's Cute Overload's page about the whole thing, and here's I Can Has Cheezburger's act of defiance.
- Sci Fi Wire smells a resurgence of the sci-fi western on the horizon, thanks to the upcoming films Cowboys & Aliens and The Dark Tower.
- Nicolas Cage was going to play a villain in The Green Hornet, but thankfully it sounds like he dropped out. Whew. Dodged a bullet there.
- Joystiq got its hands on Star Trek Online; here's the report.
- Listen to an excerpt of Nick Cave's new novel The Death of Bunny Munro, read by the man himself, accompanied by some of his own music. It's rather filthy, but also quite excellent.
- It's time for the final showdown in Cinematical's Best Superhero Movie of All Time Tournament. The choice is clear, and the best man is winning.
- Find out how much radiation your cell phone is exposing you to.
- Severed gecko tails have minds of their own! Aaahh!
- Guillermo del Toro says he'll be making a big announcement soon about something non-Hobbit related. Uh... then why should we care??? Okay, okay, it might be something cool even if it's not about The Hobbit. Although I don't see how.
- All T-shirts are $9 at Threadless today. (Via)
- Our fat could save us after all! Turns out it's a good source for stem cells.
- A while back Wired launched an experiment: they had a guy named Evan Ratliff disappear, then challenged everyone to try to find him. Well, he's been caught. Here's how.
- The hierarchy of digital distractions. (Via Dennis)
- U.S. citizens will soon be able to log into government websites using their Google account info. There's also support for Yahoo, OpenID, and Information Card.
- This trailer for Up in the Air is nothing short of amazing. My favorite trailer in a long time, and it's not even for a genre film! Not as amazing, but also intriguing, is the trailer for Timur Bekmambetov's Black Lightning, which can be found at the bottom of this post.
- The upcoming alien invasion movie Battle: Los Angeles sounds interesting, especially with star Aaron Eckhart comparing it to Alien.
- I was sad yesterday about the Gundam going down in Japan, but now it looks like another giant robot is going up in South Korea.
- A guy avoided getting fined by wearing animal masks when his photo was taken by speed cameras.
- Cuteness! A French Bulldog puppy trying desperately to get up, and a bunny checking things out.
- The latest news on the new Judge Dredd film. Will Danny Boyle be directing??
- A surprisingly good trailer for a Plan 9 From Outer Space remake, plus an examination of all the movie coming out this year with the number 9 in the title.
- Doing her own stunts has taken its toll on Rose McGowan, but apparently she is going to do that Red Sonja remake eventually.
- Velcro made of steel!
- A kid in an awesome LEGO Boba Fett costume. (Via)
