Yesterday Kristin Hersh posted an interesting series of tweets about music and art. The one that really caught my eye was this one:i don't believe that beauty and shit are subjective...lots of people like big mac's but that doesn't put them in the same league as apples YES. I agree with this very strongly! Some people seem to think music and art are completely subjective, and each person likes what that person likes, and that's that. But it's not just a song that can be flawed; the listener can also be flawed! You can be wrong in thinking that a song is good, and wrong in thinking that it's bad. Some things are just good, and some things are just bad, regardless of what people think. Because some people just have bad taste. For instance, I'd take a Big Mac over an apple any day! That's because I have terrible taste in food. I'd like to think I have slightly better taste in music. |
