Scary Games Are Scary and I Don't Like Them |
by Fëanor |
I don't know why, but I'm really kind of a baby about the recent first person shooter games that are super-realistic and really hard and involve you creeping through the dark and suddenly being attacked by some hideous monster or some dude with a gun who doesn't like you. They scare the crap out of me. I don't find that entertaining. I mean, I like a good scare and all, but these games make me afraid for my life. And they're so damn hard! You take a step into a room and ten robot yetis unleash their lazer eyes on you and you're fried before you can even remember which button is the fire button.
I guess since I can't really devote myself very much to video games anymore, and they've become really a secondary or tertiary hobby, I find I want them to be accessible, quick, and easy. I don't want to have to sit down for an hour to do anything in the game. I want to be able to drop in, play a little bit, and then leave, without having to really struggle too much to get places. I like a challenge, but I don't want my games to be so challenging that I have to play the same damn level over again 50 times until each part of it is ingrained in my mind and I start to get a physical body memory of how to do certain parts of it, and that's actually the only way to beat it. That's sick and wrong.
Anyway, that's my rant for tonight.
Other things that are going on:
- My Button Men computer player now knows how to pick swing dice. I'm currently teaching him a strategy for stealing initiative.
- I'm about half way through watching Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi, and it is quite cool. There's nothing like a movie about a blind gambler/masseuse who's an expert swordsman and who gets embroiled in local gang warfare, as well as a brother and sister's quest for revenge, and must face off against a ronin who, despite being a nice guy and an expert swordsman (of course) must work for nasty people to make money to cure his sick wife.
- Poppy wants me to change the Journal's main page so that only the beginnings of each post show up, along with a "Read More" link that takes you to the full post. So I'll be working on that. I may make it an optional view/skin...
And I think that's it for now. I'd better post this before the day is over, or it'll end up being my Saturday post instead of my Friday post...
Peace out, folks. |
