Almost Blue
 by Fëanor

  • I'm really conflicted about this movie Sky High (found the trailer via The Movie Blog; much thanks to Sarcasmo for turning me onto that site). On the one hand, it's a movie about superheroes starring Kurt Russell, Linda Carter (babyraven, take note!), and Bruce Campbell, and it looks like it's pretty funny and has some decent action and special effects. On the other hand, it's a kids' movie about high school (I tend to avoid high school movies like the plague) and it looks cheesy and cliched.

I just don't know how to feel!

  • This is kind of an amusing song about South Street here in Philly. Actually, it's not really a great song (if you're looking for decent music, try this song, an instrumental by the same band), I just kind of enjoyed the many specific Philly references and in-jokes, and thought my fellow Philadelphians might, too. (Both files found via Salon's AudioFile.)

  • Peccable pointed out to me last night that it's important to take with a large grain of salt everything the game system developers say about their next gen platforms, and this article makes the same point. I wasn't really paying as much attention when the PS2 and Xbox were coming out, so I wasn't really aware of all the lies and exaggeration they were spouting last time around. Well, no biggie. I'm sure the PS3 will still be an advance of some kind over the PS2, and it'll let me play all those old PS2 and PS1 games that I missed. It's all good.

  • But talk of this sort has deflated my excitement a bit over what I've been reading in the latest issue of Wired, about all the incredible and amazing stuff that's going to be at their NextFest this year. I was getting all flush with optimism about the future of humanity, but now I'm wondering if the NextFest isn't just another E3--full of sound and fury, but signifying nothing. Or if not nothing, than at least much less than it claims to signify. Ah, well. It's not like I really needed a smooth-walking robot or a flying car anyway.

  • To continue the rather sour mood of this post, I present this article about Amnesty International's recent condemnation of the United States for committing--and helping create a climate for other world powers to commit--human rights violations. The hypocrisy, brutality, greed, dishonesty, stupidity, and short-sightedness of this country's current administration really astounds and sickens me. I've said that before, but it's been a while, and recent news has brought it strongly to my attention again, so I thought I'd reiterate.
