Portents of DOOM |
by Fëanor |
- I'm still keeping track of this Sky High movie with slightly mixed feelings. As I said before, I'm attracted to the fact that it's a humorous superhero movie with what appears to be a goodly amount of action, special effects, and fun. But I'm repelled by the fact that it also appears to be your typical high school/teen/family movie that has been hurriedly dressed in tights and sent out to entertain us. The 10 Minute Preview on this page (found via The Movie Blog) did little to resolve my difficulties. Yeah, the movie looks kind of entertaining, what with Bruce Campbell and all, but it also looks kind of stupid, and seems to include the typical shameful incidents that recur in all teen movies, and that I would rather not see. I was a teen once, and experienced similar such shameful incidents, and I don't know about you, but I would like to forget those things, not watch them repeated for me in brilliant technicolor on a giant screen.
But yeah, I'll probably end up seeing this one, either in the theaters, or years later on Netflix.
- I like Guy Pearce, and I'm fascinated by Harry Houdini and the story of his life, so a movie that combines both of them should be interesting. I have to disagree with the folks at The Movie Blog, though; Houdini's life has indeed been explore in a film before--at least three, in fact, according to the IMDB. I seem to remember seeing the end of the Tony Curtis version on TV one time, actually. Still, I'll definitely line up to see a new film version of his life, especially with Pearce attached to the project.
- I remember hearing that it was coming out on November 8th, but it turns out the Revenge of the Sith DVD is in fact being released a week earlier on November 1st. Cool. When the time gets closer, I'll set up an evite and ask all you folks to come over and watch both trilogies with me. We'll geek out until we're sick, and then we'll geek out some more.
That press release also mentions that the video game Star Wars Battlefront II will come out the same day. I haven't tried the original Battlefront, but I've heard good things, and I tend to find it difficult to resist Star Wars-themed video games, so maybe I'll check out BII, too. It's not being released for the GameCube of course (grumble, grumble), but it will be on the PC, and I do have one of those.
- Dude, we can use stem cells to fix damaged hearts. We rock. (Thanks to Google News for the link, btw.)
- Hillary, Hillary. I don't like where you're going with this anti-video game talk (that's a Salon page, so it's subscription; sorry). I don't want to have to drop my support of you over this issue. But I will. Crap like this is one of the many reasons I hate Joe Lieberman.
