Tentacles of the Submerged Beast-God
 by Fëanor

  • Elijah Wood as Iggy Pop?!? I...guess that could work. But mainly it sounds like pure insanity to me.

  • This movie The Good German is sounding really cool. It's a murder mystery set in Germany right after WWII. It'll be directed by Steven Soderbergh and star George Clooney and Cate Blanchett. Cool stuff.

  • Richard Linklater is apparently going to make a fictional adaptation of Eric Schlosser's non-fiction book, Fast Food Nation. Even setting my dislike of Linklater aside, this sounds nearly as insane to me as Elijah Wood playing Iggy Pop. Still, I'm sure it will at least be...interesting. Unless, of course, it's utterly dull and pointless, like Slacker.

  • This Superman Returns teaser trailer (which I found on both Cinematical and The Movie Blog) is apparently not for real, and was just put together by a fan. But despite that, and despite the fact that I don't even like Superman that much, and that the last couple Superman movies were crap, and in fact none of them were really great movies (although Superman II was undeniably entertaining), this damn thing gave me the chills. Fantastic work. I wonder if the official one will be anywhere near as good.

  • Thanks to the Pink Haired Girl for linking to this web comic. I think I've heard only part of one Sufjan Stevens song, but specific knowledge of the man and his work is not necessary to find this totally hilarious.

  • I would totally go see a "Lost" movie. And yes, they should totally pay those folks more. Whatever will get me more "Lost"! When does that show come back on, anyway?!

  • Okay, Avi, you've gone too far when you're seriously planning on making a movie out of Ant-Man. Come on! Ant-Man?!

  • On a more personal note, you know who's cool? The Beastie Boys! Seriously. They rock. I'd been curious about them for a while, but thanks go to funkmaster extraordinaire Vis Major for finally turning me onto them big time.

In other music news, I've just picked up the Gorillaz's (is that the correct possessive form of Gorillaz??) latest disc, Demon Days, not to mention Frances the Mute by The Mars Volta. I'm listening to Demon Days right now, and I think it's pretty cool. You may ask, "What with this and the Beastie Boys, does this mean you're finally embracing rap and hip hop?" Well, I don't know about embracing, but I'm taking my first hesitant, careful steps toward those genres, yes.

As for Frances the Mute, I'm not sure about it. I kept reading articles on it, and it sounded right up my alley--a contemporary prog rock concept album, awesome! So I knew I had to buy it. And now that I have, I find that it is indeed full of really weird songs that are all very long, nearly incomprehensible, and are separated into multiple parts, each with their own really odd sub-titles. Both the titles and the lyrics are often in other languages (Latin, Spanish, etc.). Despite all this classically prog pretentious opacity, I'm still not sure I like it yet. I'm going to have to listen to it all the way through a number of times before I get a real handle on it.
And that appears to be all I have for you today, my little snowflakes. Remember, if you're having a hard time enjoying your Tuesday: it's Tuesday! Short work week this week! Yay!
