Lists, Thanks, and Shame |
by Fëanor |
- Another list?! Yes, yes, another list. I don't know why there seem to be so many of them popping up everywhere all the sudden, but this one is a list of the 50 "most significant" science fiction films, in alphabetical order. It's an okay list, all things considered. I would argue against the inclusion of Contact because I think it's a corny movie and was not very significant to anybody that I know. Also, a few of these I've never even heard of (what the heck is The Damned?), and a couple of them I'm not convinced are sci fi at all (I would consider Bride of Frankenstein a horror/satire). But like I said, besides those nitpicks, it's a pretty good list. There are a number of movies on it I don't like very much, but the list is specifically of significant movies, and I can't deny that the 1953 version of War of the Worlds was that, even if I do also find it didactic, ridiculous, and poorly acted.
- Thanks, Sarcasmo, for confirming the worst for me. I'm not surprised, exactly, but I am a little depressed:
- Thanks to Wired for the link to the Girls of Geekdom website. Apparently there's a calendar. Anyway, here are the girls. For those worried about that sort of thing, there's no nudity here, just...suggestiveness.
